All I am aware of is new "Black Boron" finish irons, and limited "Black" Blades with specs that get my attention. Might need a new set of blades.

Call me skeptical, but all I got out of that is that it's time for a new blade and this one is more "upright" so the player has a better view of the ball at address -

Doesn't sound like any increased performance or anything significant at this point...
I concur, there is only so much that you can do with a blade (any iron really).

There is a lot of evolution left in golf clubs....except in blade irons. We hit a technological wall some time ago. You can only move so much material around on a small piece of steel and experiment with differing grinds.....those iterations have been exhausted.

A good player will benefit more from newer shaft tech than a new blade.

They can make new shiny, pretty clubs and we'll keep buying em.

I'm expecting a CB-502 with a slot through the sole, K grind for improved turf interaction, and in copper. True story.

Works for me. I've got a couple of K grind wedges and it might be interesting to hit a 7 iron with those flutes/knuckles on the back.....copper is pretty. But the slot thru sole? Might be takin it a tad far there.

LOL. "Let's take our ugliest iron design, that looks like we stacked a bunch of lead tape strips right behind the sweet spot, put a gimmicky, 30-year-old Wilson Reflex slot in the sole, grind some half moons out of the sole, and finish it in the worst-looking finish possible, so it looks bad new and worse when worn in. THAT'S how we'll get big in the U.S. market!"

Miura satin finish is tought to beat.

I play the Limited (black) TBs and was amazed at how quickly the black wore off of the clubs. There's a Miura guy on here named FLOGMR and he turned me on to a black oxide refinishing kit from a company out of Canada called Carswell. I bought their kit of re-blacked my irons in about 1/2 an hour and that finish has proven more durable than the original Miura black. I suspect that the black boron that Miura is now doing is much tougher than whatever finish they used on the TBs.

Yeah I've seen that black oxide finish and to me it looks richer. And if it wears well it would be great. I just don't like those finishes, whether copper or black or whatever, that wear out really easily and the face has so much evidence where the ball's been hit and the sole hits the ground.
They are intended to show wear. Like the wedges, these irons will show gradual, desirable wear with repeated use. But "wear" doesn't mean "wear out." Instead, it's more like a breaking in, a personalization no different than the one that occurs with your favorite baseball glove or the skates you want in the games that matter.[/background][background=rgb(235, 233, 223)]
This personalized settling-in of the finish will differ slightly for every player. But in general, the black finish will mature over time to a silvery gray, mostly on the center of the clubface and on the sole, starting at the leading edge. Time in the sun enters into it, as well as the turf the golfer usually encounters. In the end, the Limited Forged Black Blades will be distinctively Miura, and distinctively each golfer's own - and always a joy to look at as well as play."[/background]

Well....if Miura intended for these clubs to wear then they certainly achieved that particular goal. However - that finish is pretty sensitive. One drop of water left on after a round of golf and when you come back in the morning you have a rust spot. WD-40 in the trunk of you car helps keep that little monster at bay.

The re-finishing job I did just seems a little more durable. The face and leading edge still evaporate quickly - especially playing in Florida with sandy soil. But the soaking and coating is no problem and it's like having a brand new set of clubs on Christmas morning.

Those Epons remind me of the movie Iron Man.....

Me too... Even though black and copper paint look pardee when new, they gets ugly in short order. I did like Pings Beryllium heads, plus they didn't wear out. I am a satin finish kinda guy... lasts and looks good. Heck my seven year old x-Forged satin heads still look decent, and I play 2-3 times per week.

The only iron in my bag that isn't Miura is my 64-deg Cally Forged wedge in copper. I've tried to ask for a 64 from Y-san, but it doesn't look like it'll be in the cards... But the Cally copper -- which has been through all kinds of sand, grass, and weather (including Scotland rain...) has never shown a loss of finish, color, or rust. It CAN be done.

The Beryllium Pings were probably the most durable club ever made.....We had an old member of my club that did some type of grinding on his beryllium Eye2 Lob wedge and inhaled some of the dust and it messed him up. He ended up in the hospital for a while.

Yeah, I've heard that about Beryllium too. In fact, a local club maker I use sometimes won't even re-shaft a copper head club. Doesn't want to be around it when heat is applied.

Reminds me of that line in the third Godfather when Pacino says he does everything he can to get out. And right when he's about to get out...they pull him back in.

But you gotta love it.
