Good luck...hopefully I'm wrong and you will shoot better but it's hard coming back from that long of a layoff and fatigue might be a big factor quickly.

 

 

 

The two sides of any coin. I have know idea what I am going to shoot, If play to the quality of my practice...I'll go low.

 

If I get on the course, put the first peg in the ground and say to myself "where is the driving range targets?" ....I am going high.

 

If my new Mills putter finds the hole....LOW, if it finds the woods....HIGH.

 

A side benefit to this contest for me was I am thinking about not playing "recreational golf". By that I mean on some trips, I try and drive every green, and don't think my way around the course like I used to in a Tournament event.

 

I am over a year removed from Tourney golf with teaching and my back issues, so I don't know if I can flip the switch. All last year in my infrequent play (2006) I did not break par except once, in 2005 that was a 3 out of 10 occurrence.

 

Oh well, it's almost tee time!

I had a great time and perfect weather for my first rounds in almost 6 months. The 12 driving range sessions I had put in that time period had me worried.

 

On the first tee at Fazio it took me several adjustments before I could find my target, remember my intermediate target and line the stupid club up. Somehow, I had forgotten the details of alignment with just range practice.

 

My clubs: JK did a great job putting the irons and wedges together and they along with the driver were the hero's of the weekend for me. My putting was reasonable- One 3 putt, over the three rounds, but a couple of short misses really bugged me.

 

My hybrids and 3 wood were my real issues for the weekend, as I did not hit a SINGLE redeeming shot with them and they soon gathered dust in the far corner of my staff bag.

 

The Scores:

 

I started out shaky but made par in the opening hole, then went to hell in a hand basket fast shooting 41 on the front nine at Fazio. Clearly I was worried that I had forgotten how to play. However, I made my first birdie on the 10th hole par 5 and did not look back the rest of the weekend.

 

My final score at Fasio was 77

My final score at Love was 75

 

Then came Dye on the best weather day of the weekend, the hardest course and I was giving my three playing mates a whopping 26 strokes combined. Having decided I would need a 72 to win any of the matches or clears or low net....anything I started off trying to play conservative.

 

On the first hole par 4 375 yards I hit 3 iron (remember no 3 wood or hybrids allowed). I hit this ball so poorly I was in the waste bunker 201 yards away. My not so trusty hybrid saw the chance redemption, but failed and I skinned the shot which hopped, skipped and bounded into another waste bunker 100 yards out.

 

The hybrid flew as far as the shot......

 

My 54 degree wedge from the waste bunker was one of the best shots I have ever hit, leaving me 18 inches for par. I was cranked up.

 

My final score at Dye was 71.............! Three birdies and two bogey's

 

Total score for 3 rounds: 223 and the winner is Banistr.

 

 

Thanks for playing along, the contest made me focus and consequently I played the trip a little tighter than I might have otherwise. However, I could not cover the shots and was the weekends low gross, but money loser.......I love strokes! :drinks:

Played better than I expected to, and I was thinking the last guy on the list with the highest total had a reasonable chance on the "over" bet. (cool)

 

I hit a bunch of greens and drove the ball really well....will see if I am on my way back to the 2005 season were if I shot 74 I was tough to live with! 2006 was a funny season, less play, more back problems and gave a ton of lessons.

I missed two putts that were under 2 feet, and some others that were longer and did the "in the hole-out of the hole" thing........drove me nuts. I had the letter "R" on the card next to the score...ROBBED.

 

Hence we will be putter shopping...it could not have been me?
