Driving Range Prices

A driving range near my house has been doing heavy renovation and has opened a new 15- stall grass driving range, three new practice greens, and a couple of new holes. I was talking to an employee today and he said their would be a couple of packages:

199 per month would get you a 1 large buckett (matts only) , allow you to chip, and play the par 30 9 hole course- daily

299 per month would get you unlimited range balls of the grasss, unlimited chipping, ulimited play, and 10% of in the shop.

50 would allow you all the benefits of the 299 membership for the day.

What do you think of the price points and do you think it is a good idea. By the way, the grass range would only be open to people with the 299 or 50 dollar package and chipping will cost 8 dollard w/o a membership, but there will be two public putting greens

Thanks

That sounds expensive. I belong to a practice facility that has unlimited balls, indoor hitting areas, outdoor year round grass tees, covered, heated hitting area (mats), 2 Crenshaw putting greens, a short game area, and a lighted par 3 course for $65/ month. I have visited several centers comparable to this one across the country during the season and none of them were that expensive. Many of the guest fees I have paid have been around $15 to $20. I realize yours will have a nine hole course, but still sounds too pricey.

I think that it depends on where you are located. here in NJ our season isnt very long. so for driving ranges to offer grass doesnt make sense because they cant grow grass all yr round. I know of one driving range that has grass near me. they have package deals too but $25 gets you access to the whole facility for a day, range, green, 2 chipping and pitching greens. only package holders can use the 3 practice holes. not many courses that i have played around here have grass ranges, they all use mats.

like slicer90 said, it really depends on the location.

my dad and i hit balls tonight at the Chelsea Piers driving range (only place in manhattan) for ONE hour for $25 each (1hr of unlimited balls on Sundays after 6pm February special). normal rates below:

Ball Card Rates

Value Off-peak Peak time

$20 118 80

$25 148 100

$30 186 126

$50 323 220

$100 676 460

the only other accessible driving range for me is Randall's Island and that's $12 for 119 balls. they have a new grass area only open during the season but that's like $15 for 80 balls.

That sounds very similar to one of the deals they have going on here where I live.

Pay about $200 a month, and you get unlimited range balls and use of their practice green/chipping area and practice bunker area.

But, you also get to play any of the three 18 hole championship courses they own (one of which hosted a USGA national championship last year) with 14 day advanced reservations. That's a deal if there ever was one...

There is a lot of geographical variability I'm sure, but where I live in the Midwest, you can buy an "all you can hit" range pass at a nice grass tee facility for $300 for the year, which is usually good for 9 to 10 months of the season.

For another $150 a month, you could join the local TPC (with an equity initiation fee) and play all the TPC golf and practice on their magnificent range and practice area (which hosts a Champions tour event).

Most ranges were i live are buy a bucket and get access to everything. To me that is crazy.

That's steep.....

At my club, $200 gets you a year of unlimited use of our facilities, which includes unlimited range balls. We have three practice greens. Bunkers on one of them. We can get 50 golfers on our practice tee very easily.

If you aren't a member of the range club, a sack of balls is $5. The sack holds probably two dozen balls give or take.

I thought $200 a year was high. After seeing the prices above, I feel a little better about paying our range club dues.

bay area adds alot to the equation.

i always consider prices for the bay area sorta in-line with NYC, so thats a pretty good deal if you compare it to chelsea piers. especially having access to grass that is fairly near a major city.

(just to add: i like randalls too (i tend to go there over C.P., based on my location) but they dont let you chip around that short game area..which is understandable, but a real pain!)

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
