Jack's clubs at Father/Son

Earlier today I was talking to a college golfer about Jack Nicklaus. He watched Jack this weekend and said he had "cool sticks". I told him his current JNP irons are a cross between old JNP's and Muirfields. His eyes glazed over. When I got home there were two threads about this but I think this board will enjoy my pics more than any other.

I think Gary is playing the JNP forging that was sold at retail though it may have a custom grind. Jack is not. I'd bet anything that his is ground from a set of flatbacks by Don White and are much shorter heel to toe and have his flat sole, etc.I bet they're almost Identical to the clubs he used for, well for a very, very long time, but they're stamped to look like the set his company sold. I bet if you pulled whatever set he used in '86 that was like the Muirfield 20th and compared to these you'd have a hard time finding any differences, grips excepted.

According to someone in the know, you would be correct: "[size=2][size=2]You might find it interesting that Jack’s JNP sets were short scored and the blades ground down to the size of a Muirfield 20[sup]th [/sup]heads. He asked for a slightly longer blade when we made them but changed his mind after they were completed. Fortunately I had made provisions in the design to be able to grind a Pro-81 blade (Muirfield 20[sup]th[/sup]) out of the JNP forging blank. All we had to do was shorten the scoring length to that of the Muirfield blades. He just likes that small traditional size blade and can’t get away from it. I guess if I had won 20 majors I’d stay with it too!"[/size][/size]

Nicklaus Golf is out of business - Best bet is eBay; either the JNP's or a set of Muirfield 20th's.
If you had money to spend on them, pull the heads, send them to [url="http://www.theironfactory.com/"]The Iron Factory[/url] have the heads refurbished then reshaft with whatever shaft fits you.

There were a lot of clubs in the Nicklaus line that were sleepers - especially their drivers.

Pretty sure the jnp cavity back shown above was the last Mac model with Jacks name on it... It was a great set.

And to think I paid 30$ for a set of those JNP cavity backs...with three marks on the hozel (square grooves).
