Eliminate web sites like Golf Now. These sites that advertise extremely low green fees out downward pressure on all courses. Similar to ho Walmart has eliminated the local retail store. A course needs to make money in order to offer quality and a decent pace of play.

But the golf course subscribe to Golfnow and agree to accept those low rates, it gets more players on the course, so if there is any pressure, it is self imposed by the course itself.

I think the PGA tour should consider doing more of what was done at the plantation course in Hawaii on the 1st tee.......player introductions. I think it would be fun if each player could choose their own mini montage (complete with music of their own choosing) before teeing off. It would add a bit more entertainment to the game, maybe draw in a bit larger crowd and allow everyone to add a bit of character and personality.

I'm assuming you're talking about the hot deals. The prepaid hot deals are simply a golf courses payment to golf now and in no way pressures us into lowering green fees. If someone asks how they got to play for such a low rate I simply explain to them how golfnow works and have never gotten into a dispute. I'm very pleased with the business golf now has brought me and its also great for genuine reviews from real customers.

Fortunately etiquette is not such an issue over here in most european countries as you have to pass a theoretical and practical test including etiquette before receiving a license to play golf on a course. You can compare it with applying for a drivers license - it's about the same procedure.

What i would change is the lenght of golf balls. They go too long which means that a lot of great course become too short and they start to lenghten them. By doing so a lot of great and old course design dissappear.

grunching this thread...

so many things to speed up game

gimme circles. maybe more than 1 (track handicap vs not)

walking in peoples line outside of 7 or 10 feet fine

maybe putt in to out. shortest putts first i think..... and/or continuation putt till finished...

wave up anyone outside 200 yards to hit. distance would obv depend on conditions.. but no more waiting for 240 yards cause you have 2% chance of putting it on green... not sure logistics but it should work (maybe ouside 215 yards just hit and yell fore if necessary)

stuff like that...

Since this is a hypothetical commentary, and nothing is likely to happen as a result of the comments, the thing I would like to see changed is peoples' attitude toward the game and scoring. Too often I see, even with people I regularly play with, do things like roll the ball around before hitting, or taking a 2 foot gimme, mulligans, etc, even during money games. If people would care more about the game than a number on the card, it would be more enjoyable for all.

I'm all for simplifying the rule book also. The USGA is doing itself no favors in their "effort" to grow the game.

"Hey, golf, that looks fun! What are the rules?"
"Well, first-read this tacky pamphlet that is written in legalese. Then be prepared to defend your interpretations of each rule. Oh, and have fun!"
(Reads 1/2 page of Pamphlet) "Umm...never mind."

The USGA and R&A need to get over themselves.

To all of you who want to take carts away, power or pull, you are probably at an age where you can say that. Wait til you get older and have an ankle or knee surgury, and see if you say it then! Carts enable many people to play the game they love. Maybe we should say that there shouldn't be any 'walkers' on the couse because they slow donw the play! sheesh. Slow play is a result of being undisciplined, not riding cart, nor one's HC.
