Going from KBS Tour stiff to Ping CFS Stiff - Will I be ok?

From everything I've been reading on here it appears that the CFS S and R perform fairly close to the same. I play stiff in the KBS Tours only because my irons came with them and I liked the feel and the weight. However I need a little more speed and something to help me get the ball in the air more. I've got my eye on a set with the CFS in stiff and I think they'd help… little lighter, higher launching, and they have the performance of a regular flex shaft but just a tad heavier. CFS apparently plays 1/2 a flex weaker so it would almost be a R+ in relation to KBS's standards.

My SS with a driver is around 95… 7 iron distance is about 140.

With what I'm looking for you think they'd be worth a try? The price is right….

What we think and say might be very different from what is important to you. It would take 30 minutes to pop into a golf store and test the CFS stiff, you would then know for sure if you are making the right move.

I'm hoping to do that this week. Just always nice to hear thoughts from the shaft gurus on the board.

Someone that hits their 7-iron 140 yards should be in KBS Tour R, not R+ or S (my opinion). CFS does play soft, but I'd say you should be in R flex, maybe hard stepped one time. Honestly, flex is mostly about feel, so as mentioned, go swing the clubs. When in doubt error on the side of soft, not hard. With KBS Tour S you are WAY stiff.

I would agree I'm WAY to stiff in the KBS.. I love the KBS feel and I don't notice the extra stiffness in the wedges or high irons… but once I get into the mid irons I have a horrible time getting them into the air.

I'd try the CFS R's. Very nice shafts. Medium high launch with smooth feel. A good bit lighter than KBS Tour S too.

I only ask about the CFS stiff because of an nice ebay set I'm watching. ;-)

i am doing the same thing.... currently playing the Tour V 110 in my J38 which were originally fitted with the PX 6.0 Flighted. The PX were just too stiff feeling for me so I dropped the Tour V in and what a difference. I have a set of i20 irons on the way with the CFS S and I am hoping they will be just right as I think I belong in a PX 5.5, or flex of that type. I have never hit a club fitted with those shafts that I didn't like. My driver SS is usually 98-101, but I am hoping these CFS are just right as they should play a little softer. Good luck to you!!

I once played the kbs tour for approximately 30 months. Dabbled with the CFS stiff in both the i25 and s55. They didn't last long, prefer a beefier feel iron shaft, and the cfs just didn't provide that feel.

You may or may not have a problem with the cfs, I could play them if I had to, but based on feel, I like a dynamic gold type of feel.

You could soft-step the CFS stiff too.

I don't even hit the ball that long but I much prefer stiffer shaft that is sufficiently light like the Z-Z65.
The on-paper spec for KBS Tour stiff would be a touch heavy for me but I actually hit KBS Tour stiff quite well due to the counter balanced characteristics.
Going to CFS stiff may well work if you want 'a little less work hitting the ball'. I won't touch the CFS regular.

I've been using KBS Tour R+ for a year now after a couple years with Tour stiffs. They are easier to elevate and control without swinging out of my shoes. CFS stiffs are noticeably softer than the R+ and remind me of a KBS Tour regular which is about the same weight. (KBS Tour reg 110g, CFS stiff 109g) The CFS S feels okay but if I go after a ball it is a little loose feeling and I draw it more than I want to and it goes very high. A regular CFS is very soft. My driver speed is high 90s and I hit a seven iron 150-155 typically.

Get on the KBS website and do the fitting questions. It's not perfect but it will give you a pretty good idea of what weight, flex, and model may be best. It gives me recommendations of Tour R+ or Tour V regular as a light weight option for my speed and tempo.

I have the CFS stiff... My SS is similar to yours and 7 iron carry is slightly longer. I love the CFS. I used the project x before and these have a similar feel and launch. The CFS launch higher than the project x. They can really take the ball up...
