Golf Channel Am Tour Canada in 2017

For the Canadian golfers who played the Tour last year and the years before, I have some information for you.

I emailed them and they told me that after the problems they had last year, they terminated their contract with the operator who ran the Tour, and they are taking full control of it. Unfortunately, the Tour will only be in the GTA for 2017. They will progressively roll out in the other provinces in the coming years.So for next year, the only way to play in the Golf Channel Am Tour will be to play in local tours in the US.

This seems very unfortunate and something that will not work out being that in the GTA they have huge competition from the GTA Am Tour...actually there is no competition, the GTA AM Tour is really the only real amateur tour with a lot of players and is run very very well in the GTA. I researched quite a bit last year before joining the tour and nothing compared with the number of players it has and the courses in rotation.

Not sure if the Golf Channel tour was more popular elsewhere but in Toronto it really did not have large numbers (from what I saw when looking at results etc)...I think they even had a Tour Championship at Glen Abbey and only had 16 people total that played. Comparing that to the GTA Am Tour where your A flight will have 30 or so people at peak events and the B flight being even bigger I believe. I don't see this boding well for the Golf Channel tour as they will see poor numbers for the tour in Toronto and may get disheartened to expand to other cities/provinces because of it.

Let me clarify this topic a little more. How far this tour grows will be solely dependent on the growth of the membership. For this year, Ontario is being combined with the Buffalo/Rochester tour with six events being held in southern Ontario and 9 events in the US. 4 of the events in the US are within a 30 to 40 minute drive from the border to accommodate those Canadian golfers who wish play a more expanded schedule. The GTA tour is a very good, very well run tour in Toronto. The GCAmTour will be holding their events on weekend days and shouldn't directly compete with the GTA Tour. The small numbers on the AmTour early on are to be contributed to the fact it was a new tour and later on the lower numbers are attributed to administration issues I won't go into.
