HELP: claim of never receiving item

I have a guy (not on this site, from a facebook group) claiming that he never received an item that I shipped to him even though USPS tracking says it arrived on time and in his mailbox. What I find strange is that it says it was delivered on April 24th and he waited until this morning to contact me. I've never experienced this before so can anybody tell me what my options are?

If you have sent it, with tracking/ proof of delivery and USPS say it's delivered, then I'd say all you can do is politely point the buyer at USPS and have them deal with it.

You effectively have proof it WAS delivered, so I'd say your job is done. What else can you do?!

Of course you can expect to be black balled on the FB selling group, but keep an eye out for the online flogging and stand your ground.

It's been delivered so if won't even win a PayPal dispute

It could have been delivered to the wrong address thanks to a postal carrier error ......but that's still a postal issue in my mind. Have the buyer contact his local post office with the tracking info and see if they can sort it out.

Open a case with USPS. It will take a little effort on your part but they will investigate it. Once you have a case number you can escalate it to consumers affairs after 48 hours. Let the buyer know what you are doing to resolve the issue because they will probably reach out to them as well. If he's lying then he'll probably magically find it. If he's being truthful he should welcome the investigation

If usps shows delivered to the correct address then he is the one screwed. Someone stole his package but that's not your fault

This is the best advice in this thread. If he's scamming, he'll probably wither from this course of action. If the item legitimately never showed up, there's no reason for him to put up any resistance to this. Keep him updated, let him know exactly what steps you intend to take to help make him whole. If he wants to start dictating demands ("you need to refund me right now"), I'd politely give him all the information I have, such as tracking and receipts, and wish him luck getting it resolved himself. When USPS tracking shows an item as delivered, the responsibility passes on from the seller to the buyer.

After having a package stolen from my doorstep, I personally asked my postal lady not to leave packages when I'm not home. Every time I get the delivery note and pick it up later.

If it's coming UPS or FedEx, I leave a note on the door not to deliver and I'll pick it up. So far this has worked great. No stolen packages. Can be done online too.

The first one stolen was my last and I had to bite the bullet. Seller did his job of shipping. But he can't stop thrives and it's not his duty to do so.

When I ship, I typically pay a little extra for signature confirmation. If the seller is against it, it's now on them if it's stolen once delivered to their address.
