Champions Club At The Retreat course closed?

I have a pass to play there for 2 that I was trying to use and when you call them to book they are closed with no other information available. Just wondering if anyone else knows what happened? I've never played there - but like I said I have this pass I bought a few months ago...

A friend who lives down the street from the clubhouse told me the course stopped most maintenance for a while, then abruptly closed in mid July. The restaurant and wedding facilities are still open but they shut down course operations, with no word as to whether they'll ever reopen.

Sorry about loosing your cash but Im not surprised. That is without a doubt the worst course i have ever played. Cant believe Nicklaus allowed his name to be attached to it. It was like they wanted to build a golf course on the side of a mountain and not move any dirt.

I've heard from a couple of friends that Champions Club is the most "target golf" course they've ever played. I remember it originally opened as a private club and had to open it up to the public after ONE year because members threatened to leave or did leave.

Never got to play it, but I kinda wanted to go, just to see how bad it was. I guess I'm out of luck.

it definitely had a few quirky holes but sad to hear the course is shutdown completely. difficult course and was deeply discounted for as long as I've been out here. Lot of competition in the area... eagle glen, glen ivy, hidden valley, and goose creek are all good tracks.

Been a year already since these posts and still not reopened......

A lot of people hated this course, I LOVED it. Challenging! As mentioned above, a lot of competition in the area. Sad to see so many course closures in Southern California over the past few years....

I thought the course was super fun...

Didn't love the course, was target golf with many blind shots. I did drive the short par 4, I think 8/9 with my 5 wood? I had a 10 foot eagle putt and missed. I think it only played like 240 carry as the crow flied.

I believe it is #6, after the par 3 with bathroom (where you can see Eagle Glen down on the other side). I used to hit 3 wood here, you get a nice forward kick if you get past that right bunker! All depends where the flag is though....

Same company bought Retreat, CC Vellano, Empire Lakes and a few down in San Diego. They ignore the course, then close it down because it loses money. Hello subdivisions.

I really enjoyed CC Retreat, it was a fun, rear-kicking layout. CC Vellano was amazing when it was a new club.

Champ Club was an amazing one off experience! It was pure golf thought, target and execution. Not for everyone.

It reminded of a course I played in LA....side of a hill but that one was way harder! It closed as well.

Happy I got to enjoy it ...definitely legendary and infamous.

Cascades? In Sylmar.

could be cascades, could be lost canyons, could be vellano, could be malibu cc. lots of closures in socal the last 15 years and more than a few on a hillside.

I wouldn't call Simi Valley close to LA, whereas Sylmar is much, much closer just off the 405 north on your way to Santa Clarita. Although I did love lost canyons and sorry it is gone.

This actually made the LA Evening News last night. Did not paint a pretty picture of this developer, especially in looking at some of his past tactics at other courses (dumping truckloads of chicken manure on the closed course right by the houses of homeowners that vocally opposed him .... "to keep the grass alive". The story also gave very little reason for hope for this course....much like Escondido CC, Vellano CC, Champions Retreat, etc.)

The "developer" ...what a $hitbird/scumbag. That being said....courses better have their act together or that douchebag and others like him are waiting in the wings. The best is when the homeowners call his bluff and oppose development....he gets burned.

I played the Champions club. I thought it was a lot of fun to play once. Lots of quirky holes.

Some straight down hill big time. I wouldn’t have wanted a steady diet of that course. My

guess would be that was part of the trouble.
