Casting Club/ Horrible Impact Position

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Been having trouble recently retaining any lag in my downswing. I typically have a pretty flat swing with minimal wrist hinge however I have normally been able to "float load" the club and get an increased wrist angle in transition. For whatever reason this has now gone away as you can see in the videos, and my impact position is almost unbearable to watch on video =). Chip shots are fine as I keep my hands in front, but as soon as I go beyond chipping it looks like I flip the club and the consistency/ power on my shots has dropped dramatically. Any help or advice you all have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'm no guru, but realized on video I wasn't hinging my wrists either (I thought I was, and then saw the video).

Solution? Hinge the wrists (lol).

I now make a conscious effort to start my hinge right away. one piece takeway crap ruined me for a while.

Did that last week, and last week was my best week ever golfing.

I don't know if I'd classify what you are doing as casting. You're barely hinging your wrists. You're going from setup position, bring the club back and back down without barely any hinge.

I've been watching a lot of swings on Instagram (Dan's, Monte's pages) and I pay particular attention to their backswing positions. Since my problem was I was bringing my arms too low, without enough hinge.

I've noticed on a lot (not all) that the wrists are essentially fully hinged by the time they reach lead arm parallel (right arm for you). Maybe give their drills a shot.

Dan has the arms and body in sync drill, and Monte the no turn cast drill. That helped me learn how to hinge my wrists sooner. It also helps me from overswinging (I usually stop swinging shortly after my wrists are hinged).

Appreciate the quick response. I have messed around with the wrist hinge in my swing, however that impact position always looks the same no matter how much I hinge them. I also like to watch a lot of swings and the one that comes to mind for me is steve stricker, and how he has virtually no wrist hinge in his backswing.

Nose in front of ball at address.

No wrist hinge.

Not enough torso/spine extension in the backswing, that’s why your head goes down and out to the Ball.

Way too much lateral knee movement toward target in downswing.

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.

Thanks Monte =) Could you clarify what you mean by the torso extension as well as my knee movement? I have never heard someone talk about those aspects in golf swing

Front knee really shouldn’t get outside front foot and should straighten a lot sooner.

As far as extension...

His wrists are fully hinged, sure it appears he hinges them later than some others, but they are definitely hinged
