620 CB/MB Combo Set?

Currently using 716 MB's 4-9 iron, gapping and yardage is sound however maybe 1 out of 5 shots with the 4 iron is carrying about 2 yards further than the 5 iron (strike location on my part). The other 4 out of 5 are consistent with gapping but that 1 in 5 shot could be costly at the wrong time.

Ready to replace my set and 5-9 irons I'm happy with MB's they always hit my yardage and I see no need in having CB's take over any of these clubs, however with the Tungsten weighting in the 4 iron of the new 620CB's I think this may be a good direct replacement?

Is anybody else thinking of this sort of combo or opting for the more traditional CB 4/5/6 and MB 7/8/9?

Proof will obviously be in the pudding when I get on the launch monitor later this week to try the 620's but I like to go armed with a plan.

With the T100 having the same top line will anybody be going for any more out there combos, such as T100 4/5 CB 6/7 MB 8/9?

I assume you've had the lofts of your 4 and 5 irons checked recently? I mean, a slight mishit with a MB would/should result in a shorter shot.

Unless I misunderstood. Please disregard if you're replacing your irons anyway.

Absolutely no reason not to give that a go.

It's what Justin Thomas has been doing for a long time alternating between a CB, AP2 and now a T100 4 iron whilst keeping the rest of his irons as MB's.

The gapping / lofts are fine, I think its me getting in my own head with the 4 iron. Just don't quite pure that 1 out of 5 shot and as a result it's flying no further than the 5 iron because of drop off. Just think knowing theres a little something there in the longest irons would help.

Very true, I'll have to try the T100 and the CB during fitting. It's good now that the top line on all 3 options will blend well.

Although with a 4-iron you might see the difference you are looking for with the CB. the older model had tungsten weighting in all the irons to provide forgiveness and height. This year they only have it in the 3 and 4 iron so the shorter irons would play more like mb's.

Yeah I would prefer MB's on looks and don't see much additional forgiveness from the CB's. Thats why I was considering just getting the 4 iron in cb rather than 4/5/6. I don't want any additional launch etc from the longer irons, just think a little tungsten and perimeter weighting may help that 1 in 5 shot a little.

I've noticed some guys seem to be opting for 3/4 irons in the U500, which I don't mind too much but they just seem so cumbersome against mb's I had a 712u back in the day and got rid within a few weeks as it just felt bulky. Think I'd prefer the T100 or CB as 4/5 I strike it great and it's no issue but that 1/5 strike will catch me bad one day. I also seem to turn into a hook machine with the hollow heads like the U500.

No drop off, I even played the 3 iron MB previously but it doesn't really have a slot these days due to my hybrid.

Just trying to cater a touch more for the shot that has a touch of drop off on an off centre hit, my swing speed/ball speed etc. is fine the gapping throughout on a solid shot by shot basis is how I want it.

Moving to the CB or T100 might help, but you're probably going to hit the ball higher with it, and may need to strengthen the loft of them to hit the same window.
