Tommy Armour 845 Tourney Colokrom Irons

Made a nice score for these old vintage Tommy Armour 845 Colokrom Tourney irons today, (traded an Edel SIXTY wedge for them) These clubs are in surprising condition for their age having been played very little and still have the original grips, (which are toast). Always loved the personality of these clubs but have never hit them. The weather is a hindrance at the moment with three inches of snow backed up by 15 degrees. Can't wait to take them to the course and give them a go.

Just wondering what others might have to say about these beauties.

Quite nice set of vintage irons you've acquired. OG Mac Colokroms were made 1955 - 1957 IIRC. Although don't have my Kaplan at hand to confirm. Might want to double check, but that may be 945 instead of 845. The copper plating is in very good shape considering the age. Seen examples where there has been a lot of wear and loss of plating to the faces. Using #0000 steel wool on heads and shafts will spritz them up a bit. Just stay off the copper or risk losing the patina. Yeah, the grips are shot. May want to consider replacement if they become somewhat regular players. Have fun getting them off, cork and pitch going on underneath the outer layer. Heavy clubs, stout shafts. And reverse muscle....Ouch! They will bite back on less than good ball strikes. Perhaps not the first choice in irons to play on cold weather days. Let's call them 70*+ clubs.

The problem I have with these old offerings, is that they're to heavy of a club for this old hacker to swing. Other than the very occasional attempt to hit a golf ball with one, just to say I did. Couldn't begin to wield them around for 18 holes of golf. Secondly, being taller in stature, vintage irons are always significantly to short in length. Nevertheless, a quality, vintage Mac offering from BITD. Definitely unique.

You are indeed correct sir!!... Upon closer inspection the stampings were hard to discern for aging eyes but do indeed reveal these are 945's...thank you for your input!!

Boy they sure are in nice condition for their age. Pretty rare to see them looking like that. You got a very good description of what's up from Fella - I'd have to agree whole heartedly with almost everything he said. Almost in that I'd game those suckers in a heartbeat! Probably not for a whole season or anything like that but man I'd love to pound a couple of those long irons, just to keep my ego in check. Good score!

I have a set similar but the black face , most solid club ever when hit on the sweet spot.Great find ,enjoy them

Excellent trade IMHO--- Of course everyone knows I am Mac biased--- But truthfully I will echo both what Fella and Swing said those shafts are heavy and are a hand full to swing at my age which is 62. But if I had them I would maybe do a small bag with them or maybe play a 9 hole round

Excellent trade. I've got the same set and beautiful. Like Stu said, eat your Wheaties before you head to the course to swing these.
