Need a New 3 Wood!

Need some help with a new three wood, didn’t like Callaway epic but hit my M3 driver really well. Thinking about the three wood but also thinking about Mizuno ST as well. I am about a 7 handicap and need something easy to hit off the ground and won’t balloon. Thanks

The crop of 3 woods was great in 2019. Test a few more out. Front runners seemed to be Epic, M5/6, G410, TS2/3

I went with the epic mostly as an alternative off the tee. With the stock Tensei Blue it’s been a very consistent club for me. Quite happy with it.

Dude, epic flash sub zero is a mic drop from fairway and the tee just amazing

I had the sub zero with an orange Ad-7 and had trouble hitting it. Kept hitting it fat, couldn’t understand why.

Are those Tensei whippy shafts that come stock? The Taylormade come with them too... are they real or made for “....” shafts.

I too am in the market, just ordered a TS3 16.5", I feel like the deeper face of TS3 gives it the edge over the TS2 for playing off a tee. Fingers crossed. Only other current model 3W I've tried is the Cobra F9 14.5" but I chose the wrong shaft for it so haven't used it much. Sets up great behind the ball so I'm looking forward to re-bagging it next winter with the right shaft. Mental note: never mess with shafts.

The Mizuno TS adjustable ranges in loft from 13* to 17*. Be award that the higher the loft you use, the more closed the face will be (possible problem with misses right). Looks like adjustable has lower-launching head design than the standard 15* and 18*.

You might also consider a 4W. The extra loft (around 16*) helps with launch. Even if you have 105+ clubhead speed, at least try a 4W. I've seen big hitters do better with 4w than 3W, depending how they come into ball.

Please explain your concerns about "made for" shafts.

Often these are variations on earlier upcharge shaft that has been tweaked for expected users of a given club model. Get on a launch monitor and (hopefully) also hit shot outdoors. See how the shaft actually functions in a side-by-side with others. If the stock doesn't work, get an upgrade or negotiate a stock from the sub-zero model.

Often you have multiple stock shaft models you can choose from. For example, the Callaway Epic Flash offers two Project X and a Tensei as stock.

I’d say in the past the made for shafts stuff were always too flexy. Mostly have to get x stiff or different shaft. Good advice on the adjustable face item.

Highly recommend the Ping g410 or 410. Both are solid options and look perfect at address.
