Nippon 1150gh shaft flex?

Hi,

I am excited and close to pulling the trigger on some Miura 102's. I am thinking about putting the Nippon 1150 gh shaft in.

In your opinion, what flex should I go with?

My swing speed with a 5 iron is 92mph. Probably about 105-108 with a 43.75" driver.

I will be putting on a midsize grip and am aiming for a final swing weight around D2 or D3.

What are your feelings? Anyone have something similar?

I play the Nippon 1050gh in stiff flex and my driver swing speed is 108. I have a very fast tempo and have not had a problem with the stiff being whippy at all. I hit a 5 iron at 190.

Sorry to threadjack, but out of curiosity since I've never seen any pricing on Miura's. How much would that set with the Nippon Shafts run you about?

I haven't really worried too much about the numbers and pricing yet, so I don't know exacts. From what I have heard through the grape vine they aren't cheap. I believe after all is said and done, they shouldn't be too much more than say buying a set of new irons and pulling the shafts and putting aftermarkets in.

I have been there and done that before and in my mind, still don't have as nice of a forging as Miuras. I hope to cough up the cash now and play these irons for many years.

You should probably go Stiff from 7-PW, and Regular for 3-5.

My numbers are a lot slower ( 5 iron 175) and I went with 1150 stiff, softstepped once, and they are perfect but do get a little whippy on the longer irons. I think your clearly in the stiff range on these, especially if your coming off heavy DG shafts.

My driver SS is 111.....my tempo is not harsh. Stiff works for me.....I have a back up set of clubs and found a guy on this site who can get them relatively cheap. Let me check my PM's and I will PM you if I can find it. Good shafts....they do go higher than Dynamic Golds IMO....so keep that in mind.

Does anyone have any issues with the 1150GH shafts ballooning a bit on them? I'm coming from a set of Rifles that were way too stiff for me to the 1150GH stiff. My driver SS is right around 100-103. My 5 iron carry is about 175 on average.

I did hit the same shaft iron combo in R flex and felt they were too soft and whippy. So far in stiff flex they feel nice but I notice my ball flight is much higher than before. I can't really say they balloon because the distance is good but I can see myself struggling on windy days.

They do go higher than DG's...not sure about Rifle

My ss is just a little higher than yours and I thought the stiff 1150s were too soft/whippy. IMO the 1150 stiff feels softer than DG S300. Def. try the X or poss. the S hardstepped. If I were to get another set of 1150s it would def. be X.

Try the X, those shafts are a bit soft. At least for me they feel that way. Are you talking the 1150GH Tour? Those are nice shafts, still wish I could get a set of M266V in X.

I'm thinking of trying a hard step after a few more rounds. I have one demo club that I can fool around with. I have to admit so far I love the feel of these shafts. They feel so smooth.

Even with the higher ball flight I have been measuring carry distance on approach shots with my skycaddie and I'm not losing any distance. I even had more confidence hitting a few shots over trees that ended up working out well.

I bought Mizuno MP-57 with DG R300 in april this year. Only problem was that the shop in England (I live in Sweden) sent me the project X 5.5 instead. Off course I couldn´t control myself so I ripped the plastic of the heads and started playing. Now 3 months later I have learned what I allready knew in april: "those shafts are to stiff for you man, don´t play with them!"

Took a custom fit a few days ago and was fitted for the ap 2 with Nippon ns pro 100 stiff shafts. Those shafts are closest to the 1050 stiff I´ve heard.

Anyhow, took a shat with the pro that did the fitting and he said that I would be ok with ordering the MACGREGOR MT PRO-CM 3-PW NIPPON 1150GH stiff shafts (is´s a money issue otherwise I would have choosen the ap 2´s). So I did just becuse the´re so beautiful and I love the mix of blade and cavity. I haven´t got the clubs yet, can´t wait...

During the fitting I had a swing speed of 82 mph with the 6 iron. This was the first fitting where I swung the club exactly like I want to: real smooth and slow. Driver swing speed is 106 mph.

Question: Do you think I will be ok with the 1150 gh stiff shaft? I loved the ns pro 100 becuse of it´s smoothness. Worlds apart from the proejct X 5.5 it feels SOOOO much smoother than the X.

Will I get the same feel with the 1150gh or have I made a BIG mistake when ordering this? :russian_roulette:

The 1150's are very close in terms of stiffness vs the PX 5.5 but a much much smoother. The only shaft that comes close in terms of smothness are the kbs tours but they launch to high for me. The Nippon 1150's are the best shaft I have ever hit and as a clubfitter I have tried them all. And as far as your swingspeed the 1150 stiff would be perfect.

Sweeeeeeeeeeeet just what I wanted to hear. I´ll get back here with a review of both the clubs and the shaft.
