TaylorMade OS2

I just got comfortable with my OS2's and now I find out that they are discontinuing them. I'm in no rush to trade them in, but will they keep their value in about 6 months to a year when I get a new set or should I sell them now??? How much difference are the new r7 OS, as compared to the OS2. This info was produced by sirshanksalot.com, the r7 OS are projected to come out in the summer.

I'd like to hear your thoughts.

That's not fair abewley, I don't rip NIKE. I agree that TaylorMade does the least to uphold their equipment's value and integrity. For the life of me, I can't understand why TaylorMade continually tries to screw it's market, but it's all about the rat race and who can afford to play it, they believe, "the more suckers we can rope into buying, minor tweaked equipment the better off we (Taylormade) are."

Truely, I firmly believe that a company should have a statue of limitations of 2 years to work on and perfect a product before releasing a new one.

Anyway it just sucks, because I now have a set of clubs that are functionally absolete according to the market and basically have no value.

Would somebody recommend putting new shafts in at the end of the season to better ensure value and integrity of the iron or what would you recommend.

If you're buying golf clubs, I don't care what brand it is, you're going to take a steep finiancial loss. It's like owning a car. The second you drive it off the lot you've lost 1/2 its value.

If you're worried about protecting your investment, buy used!

I got my 704's this December for $450, there was a ball mark on the 5 iron and a knick the size of a pin head on the PW. other than that they were completely new and unhit. That's close to 1/2 off retail for a practically new set of discontinued clubs.

There are so many good deals to be had on barely used clubs in good stores and in the BST here, I wouldn't buy new if my life depended on it.

Don't worry about upgrading shafts or grips unless you want to. To go back to the car reference it's like installing a $3K stereo. It's nice for you to have, but when it comes time to resell them, you're not going to get your money back.

Another analogy is putting a pool in your house. It costs a ton of money to put a pool in your house, more than you'll get out in resale. Sure you could look for another house wiht a pool already built, but then you won't be able to get the shape or landscaping the way YOU want it. Get your value out of your irons by playing them and enjoying them until you're unsatisfied with them.

slice....hear what taylormadefan's talking about??....maybe we should be content with what we have and make the best use out of it....until we are really unsatisified with them or we feel we have graduated from this set....then we can move on.....and i also ditto the upgrade shaft or grip.....it may be good for you but is it good for the other player looking at your set.....is it worth it when it comes down to resale value....??

holla!

Do you want to know why Taylor Made continually changes and updates clubs? Because someone who has a set of OS2's wants to get rid of them for the latest offering. It makes sense for them, as long as the market allows them. I'm not criticising anyone. I dumped the G2 for the G5. The G5 was better for me, so I got it. I actually regressed as far as latest and greatest goes by dumping a set of G2 for a set of Zing2. These guys are in business to make money, not sell you a set of clubs and hope in five years or so when you upgrade you buy from them again. They want you to but a new set every year or two.

Just picked up a set of OS2's. They are likely to knock the Fusions out of the bag. One of the best irons I've ever hit. And there's been a lot.

The R7's are out. I checked them out when I bought the OS2's. The lofts on the R7's are really strong. Check out the TM website. If you get those you'd have to carry 5 wedges to fill the gaps.

Until you feel you've outgrown the current irons I don't see any reason why you'd sell them. As for value, the posts are right--you took a big hit when you bought them just like every other person that buys clubs. If these are great for you then great. When the time comes, trade the clubs in at a Golfsmith on one of their National Trade-In days and get something for them. Or do like plenty of people and just save these for an additional club for maybe vacations or if you have a friend that stops in to play and didn't bring clubs.

First off, Irons dont change that much like the rest and if you feel your behind just admit your a ho! :)

There is nothing wrong with that. I would recommend a reshaft to your OS2's and you will be very happy. I reshafted mine and love it!

I love to buy and try new equipment as much as anyone but alot equipment changes and updates are just not needed---it's 90% in our heads.

Case in point, I have two friends that play a 3 and 4 handicap respectively.

One plays with beat up Cleveland irons of some sort and some total no name driver. He bought his putter from Walmart,I think he paid 19.95.

The other friend, the 3 handicap one plays with over 10 year old King Snake irons( Cobra copies I think) and 10 year old Callaway woods. He did spring a couple of years ago for a Cleveland 400 Launcher.

They play with balls they find in the rough--it's disgusting--almost !

They beat my 17 handicap day in and day out---no matter want equipment I buy.

PS They have no idea what a "golf forum" is about !
