oil can vs tour chrome vs black nickel

The oil can finish seems the softest to me. If you don't mind a bit of rust forming, it's the pick of the bunch IMO. The black nickel finish is pretty durable and gets my second vote.

I agree with jaskanski. Just personal preference, but I have enjoyed oil can wedges for years and wouldn't switch.

Go try the Mizuno MP-T Black finish... In my oppinion it spins more and feels softer than any of the spin milled line....

how can a finish cause such differences in feel??
re: durability.. i understand the oil can will rust,, but what happens to the black ni over time??

There is no difference in feel from one finish to the next. Soft feel comes from the use of carbon steel, not from the finish.

tell that to the az pro!!.. my comment was a little sarcastic, cuz i doubt a finish would create more or less feel in the same block of carbon steel..

I believe some feel is result from the finish, it only makes sense something plated with another metal is going to be harder then raw steel. In that sense, Oil can should be the softest feeling.

I COMPLETELY disagree with this...i know feel is an opinion, but my opinion is that I can feel a difference from the finishes, whether they are raw (oil can), black nickel, or chrome...there is a significant difference in feel. maybe not in actual performance, but in feel

this is correct, the plating of the black nickel, or even tour chrome (IMHO) causes a different feel


and if you are looking for soft feel, you should check out some other brands, such as Scratch

The only difference is color. If you can "feel" the difference between these three finishes then you should be on the tour and winning tournaments every week.

Anyone done a blindfold test to see if a difference can actually be felt without seeing?

I once considered buying chrome wedges, but once I had them in my hands, I didn't like them. Just don't like the look of chrome. Either oil or the steel matte look.
I would not think there's too much differences in performance - oil, chrome, or black (all same model). Maybe there is, but if it was significant, all pros would be playing the same type.
I'd choose by model first (bounce, look, grooves, etc...) to know how it the ball reacts.
Then by material that suits your eye.
