Ping S56 PW or Tour S 47*?

Hello, I'm getting ready to order a set of S56 irons, 4-PW. My question is - should I buy S56 PW or Tour S 47* to make up my set? Pros and cons?

Btw, it will be my first set with KBS Tour stiff. I have played Dynamic Gold S300 and PX5.5 before. I'd like my shafts a little lighter than DGS300s but with more feel than PX5.5.

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

there are 2 traditional schools of thought on this one. One is that the PW matches to your irons. The other is that your PW matches to your wedge family.

Of course there is always the tried and true method of finding what works best and playing that. The nice thing about wedges is that they are fairly cheap and you can trade them in for a good price if you haven't used them much.

My PW matches my irons (S-57), but my other 3 wedges are all cleveland 588.

I'm in a third school. My PW is a blade pw from a set of irons that doesn't match my wedges or other irons. I have X-Forged 3-9 with a X Proto pw and vokey wedges. It's kind of like having the PW match the set but it gives me a more wedge-like shot.

Since you are already getting "blades" (for lack of a better word) and PING doesn't make anything more blade-like than the S-56, you need to ask yourself how you are going to play the PW. Are you one who takes more full shots with the PW or do you use it like your GW/SW/LW and maybe do half/three-quarter swings and other finesse shots? If you use your PW like a "10 iron", then stick with the S-56. If you like to play it like a longer wedge and maybe use it from sand or finesse shots from around the green or want it to spin more, go with the Tour-S. Something to consider before you choose: how far do you hit each PW and what kind of trajectory and spin do you want? Going with the Tour-S might give you a higher shot shape with more spin than the S-56.

... OR you could set your bag up like Jason Day and have both the S-56 AND the Tour-S PWs.

I am playing my AP2 710 PW as a wedge and I really love my PW. Best club in the bag, especially from 110 yards

dont forget how versatile the S56's are . if it was G15's i would say get the Tour-S, but the S56 is very close to the others.

I agree 100%. I did pull the trigger and ordered a set of S56s with KBS Tour, 4-PW.

By the way, I did hit a S56 7 iron with KBS Tour and Dynamic Gold. To me, KBS felt a lot smoother and had tighter dispersion - it also launched a bit higher.

My only gripe is that Ping only offers ribbed grips as standard. I like my grips round but Ping will charge $4 per club for GP Tour Velvet round - a little weird to me since Ping is known for offering various options for their clubs...

Anyways, they will be here in a week or so. Can't wait!

I play S59 4-9 and then I have a Tour W 47*. For some reason I hit the Tour W a lot better. It just feels better and hits it better - no real rhyme or reason. I have the 52 and 58 TS - great great wedges - I imagine the Tour S to be great as well, plus now KBS standard is fantastic.

I think resale, if it ever came to that, would be easier if you got the S56 matching PW.
