Considering Moving Down Under

help/information would be much appreciated

Hi there,
I am a 21 year old college student in Canada. I am considering taking a semester or year off school to move to Australia on a work visa. My plan would be to try to get on part-time at a golf course during the day, and maybe be a bartender or something on nights. As well as play in as many semi-competitivie tournaments as possible. I assume I will not have an opportunity to do this later in life with family, kids, etc. so I'm seriously looking into it now. I am not 100% sure what kind of information I am looking for, anything would help and be appreciated. Perhaps recommendations on golf courses to apply to, cities to consider, anything really. Thanks!

Thorsness, PM me with some questions if you likeor leave questions here as I don't really know what sort of info you are after. I live in Queensland just north of Brisbane, but originally come from Sydney. I might have some info that is useful.

The biggest thing for you to think about is location - Melbourne is the best for golf, but Sydney has OK golf and good beaches. Work prospects are probably similar in both cities. I personally wouldn't consider anywhere else in Australia for someone in your situation, although others might disagree.

Tournament golf here may be a bit different to what you are expecting - most courses run regular member competitions (say, 2-5 per week) with small prizes.

Your other option is to study here for a year. We had plenty of Canadian students at my uni and they all seemed to have a great time. Good luck with it.

the things you want have northern beaches in Sydney written all over them, there are great private courses and it is about half an hour away from the cbd (cental buisness district) and it has heaps of bars and clubs, and about an hour away from the best courses in Australia like royal Sydney, the lakes, the Australian and nsw golf club
