Help! My Scotty Circa 62 has rust on it!

I'm looking for the best way to remove the rust off of this beauty and that's where I need your help.

I've been told to use CLR, but I'm not sure of whether or not it will remove the finish as well as the rust?

Never dull. Get it at any auto parts store.

CLR will remove the finish. How much rust are we talking? A few small spots or more? I've used a touch of wd40 to remove small spots from carbon steel putters.

Soak it in vinegar for a hour or two. You will need something to seal it though to prevent it re-rusting.

Is it the charcoal mist finish? I had a circa 62 with that finish that got some rust spots on it after a rainy round when I forgot to take the cover off to let it dry. It came off very easily with a solution of baking soda and vinegar -- just make a paste like that, put it on the rust spots for about a half hour, and scrub it off with a toothbrush or something. Worked like a charm, and didn't do any damage to the finish.

eezox. i bought a circa 62 that had more pitting than i'd like. eezox took it out WITHOUT removing the finish.

Second for EEZOX. It's used a lot on the delicate finishes by guys on TCC. The other option is extremely fine steel woold and go lightly with it and oil it afterwards.

I believe it is the charcoal mist finish.

There's not a ton of rust, just a number of tiny rust spots. I was in a rush last week and put it back in the headcover after the round without wiping it of with a towel and when I went to play the next day, it had started rusting.

Same thing that happened with mine. The vinegar/baking soda combination worked like a charm. Cheap and no harsh chemicals needed.

What was the mixture on your solution?

Just start with about a teaspoon of baking soda and add vinegar until it becomes a paste consistency. It doesn't take a lot of either, unless you have all sorts of spots to take off.

I did the vinegar/baking soda solution two different times but there were some spots of rust that wouldn't come off.

So I did the vinegar soak and it took the finish off.

lol. I don't mind this happening actually -- it gives me a chance to send it in for complete restoration.

Reviving an old thread here but best way to remove rust spots without removing the finish on a circa 62?

EEZOX from what I've seen I just recently did clr on my raw circa but it will remove finishes. How bad is your rust?

For light rust coat in Rem oil and then hit the rust with a fine steel wool. Doesn’t hurt the finish and works great. Just cleaned one of my carbon putters this way yesterday
