Miyazaki Kusala Blue 61 vs. C.Kua 59

Irishputter

Recommended Posts

I've got a Kusala Blue 61 in Reg flex (4433) in my driver.

LOVE that shaft, my favorite club. But the shaft cost was $250.

I want to reshaft my 3 wood with a Kusala but the price is too steep for me at this time.

What do you think of pulling a C.Kua 59 in R flex (4422) from a OEM Cleveland Mashie FW and installing it into my FW.

The cost of the pull would be $50.

All the specs are VERY close.

BLUE 61 - 57g, 3.6 torque, 4433 in driver

K.Kua 59 - 61g, 3.6 torque, 4422 in FW

What do you think?

More info on these shafts...

Kusala Blue 61r - 244 CPM's
Hybrid shaft C.Kua 59r - 279 CPM's
Driver / Fairway version shaft of C.Kua 59r (3552 FLEX) - 252 CPM's

Also, hybrid shaft will be .370" tip size..

OP send me a PM if you need more info, I have their charts in PDF I can supply you if you'd like..

Hi Cadman,

On the Miyazaki site the Kusala Blue 61 is 4433 flex and the C.Kua 59 is 4433 flex......so I thought the flex on these 2 shaft were almost identical.

Are you saying the OEM Cleveland C.Kua 59 FW shaft is 3552 flex?
If so, does that make it a bad fit for a smooth transition, slower 95=SS

I'll email you for the PDF chart....

Personally, I would put a heavier shaft in the fwy wood, like a 70gr shaft. The C.Kua 59r at 252 cpms will play pretty soft (assuming the cpm was measured on a 5 inch clamp). So, even though the specs seem similar, the fact that the shaft is light and will play more flexible could give you higher ball flight, but less consistency than you may like.

Additionally.. stated CPM's are from Miyazaki's email for all their 2012 shaft models, they created the spreadsheet I received.. all things relative to how they checked them.

OP.. the only C.Kua 59r that shows 4422 flex code is the hybrid one, and again, the tip size will not fit into smaller ones..

I did email you my info..

I got the email and chart Cadman, thanks.

FYI - I went to the store and checked out the fairway wood, and is has C.Kua 59r FW - 4422 on the shaft. I know it doesn't match the chart or what is on their site, but that is what is on the club.

I called the Miyazaki customer service and he said is should have a 3552 (like you also said), but this may be a prototype or Tour shaft...he wasn't sure.

Anyway, for $50, I'm going to give it a try.

Here's a whole bunch that are so similar in full length stiffness design that they are for all intents and purposes, the same shafts from a pure performance standpoint. I tried to sort this also for weight to try to make sure all were 60-some gram shafts - I might have missed a couple, but most on this list are then both close in weight and VERY similar in total stiffness design. Just pick one. Of course some on the list are expensive as well, some are not. BUt they are all the same in performance.

This is a whole lot more technically accurate than to rely on catalog specs because these bend profile graphs and data charts are real relative stiffness measurement comparisons for the WHOLE length of the shafts.

Tom - It is always fun to see R's and S's and X's mixed together on one chart of shafts that have similar bend profiles... really goes to prove what you (and others) have been saying about the lack of standardization of how stiffness is defined.

Tom- Thanks for the info. Those charts are really great. What type of swing would this shaft type best fit? Thanks!
FRANK:

shafts for woods which display these same bend profile measurement characteristics and 60-65 gram weight range are considered well suited for a golfer with a 90-100mph swing speed who has an average transition force to start the downswing, an average amount of downswing aggressiveness and a fairly late release, though not really late.

Golfers of 90-100mph swing speed who are more aggressive on the downswing and have a much later, more aggressive release would probably find these shafts to be slightly too tip flexible in feel or in terms of offering a slightly higher launch and spin than they need.
