KBS Shafts Tip Failure

MBS1726

Recommended Posts

Anyone else here have problems with the tips of their KBS shafts bending at the hosel? I have a set of KBS Tours in my Cally X-tours that have been replaced because the original set of KBS Tours became bent at the hosel. A year ago, I purchased a set of Razr MB's to do my own build. I put a set of C-Taper Stiff in these and have played one season with them. I noticed yesterday during a round that the ferrule on my 9 iron is cracked and starting to separate from the hosel. Turned the club over and looked down the shaft at the head and there it is.......very subtle, but starting to look like a dogs hind leg just like my other set did. Looking through the set it looks like the other irons are starting to bend as well. I am a digger with my irons, and NEVER hit off of anything but natural turf with my irons because of that. I played a small fraction of the rounds last year that I normally play, and would estimate that these shafts have seen less than 30 rounds.

I haven't called KBS yet. Just discovered the issue yesterday afternoon and I plan on calling them tomorrow. They have excellent customer service! When I had this issue with the other set I have, they made good on them no questions asked. What concerns me is that this is the second time I've had the same issue. I absolutely love the KBS shafts and what they have done for my game. That being said, if these shafts have this soft of a tip section and I am going to continually have this problem, maybe I should look at a different shaft? Sure would hate to have to do that.

Short answer...YES!
Was changing out a spinner shaft from my wedge and had another wedge shafted with a c taper and wanted to use that. When I pulled it, I noticed the tip was bent at the hosel. I didn't think much of it and just ordered a new one.
Shortly after, I got a 6 iron head to match my set and when I pulled the c taper I wanted to use (out of the old 6 iron) the tip was bent as well. Hmmmm, something's up!
I took some pictures and emailed KBS. I got a response within a day or two and the rep was perplexed that their shafts were doing this. The rep assured me this was an isolated incident and asked if I would pull the rest of my shafts and send pictures of them. So I did, and 5 other shaft were bent at the tips.
The rep apologized and agreed to send out a replacement set. Great customer service!
I really like the C Taper shafts and thy fit my game perfectly BUT at the end of this season, I'm going to pull a few shafts to see what the condition of the tips are. If there bent again; I'm going to searching for another shaft.

That is exactly the response I got when I contacted them the first time. I even offered to send them back the bent shafts at my own expense and they declined. Said that the photos were proof enough that they were bent.

Very strong ball hitter here, Ive experienced those problems with my Project X 7.0 as well. Since I bought them used I had two choices, either cut a little off and get the bend straightened out by putting the bent part into the hosel or replace the 6 iron shaft, I chose the first. A replacement would have taken a month or more. Anyways, since even the 7.0s were a little softconsidering the numbers I produce, it all came out pretty good. Ok ok, the 6 iron still isnt all put back together, but the rest of the set is, I wouldnt recommend doing it. First check wether you can get replacements for free. Its a different story if you bought them new and wether you are in the US.

  • 4 years later...

Does anyone know if KBS has ever fixed this issue or are they designed and built the same way? I really enjoyed my KBS shafts years ago before my S55's bent at the tip on a few of the irons. I would like to go back to these but I don't want to have another situation like I had.

It's just the design of the shaft. The wall of the tip section of them is really thin and they just bend once in a while. It happens a lot if you practice on mats.
