Membership Option in PHX\Scottsdale

Recommended Posts

I am in the process of trying to figure out the cost benefit of joining a club or purchasing an unlimited golf package from a course that offers one. A little background; I played over 100 rounds last year and am on pace for that again. I work near downtown PHX and location to the office is nice in the summer to get out and play or practice after work. My budget max is 5k down and fees of 350-400 a month. I am 33 so I do qualify for junior memberships at some locations. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Phx cc should definitely be on your radar. They acquired some very good younger players recently with golf club of Scottsdale doing their thing and "forcing" some out. I would definitely tour it. The course is fairly easy if you are straight off the tee, but a challenge if you're not and it has some excellent greens that stay relatively quick and soft all months.

If $400/mo is your max, I think Phx will be out of the question unless you walk all the time as I'm fairly certain they charge a cart fee every outing. You would be pushing $160-$200 extra per mo if you really hit your 100 rounds per year. This was he exact reason I found a club without cart fees. So much easier to budget and forecast.

I'd personally avoid moon valley, but definitely throw in az cc as well.

I read you work downtown, but what part of town do you live in?

Anyone know how much tatum ranch is?
[/quote]

Tatum Ranch is 1250 for a summer membership, so I'm guessing annual is around $4000?

McCormick ranch has a cheap summer membership but they charge a $20 cart fee, which you can prob book it cheaper on golfnow.

To the op, if you work downtown and live around the biltmore, what about legacy or raven? A little further south, but they usually have some good membership deals that come out in the summer, might be worth a call, unless you are looking for exclusively private.

Thanks for the responses. Work downtown but live in Biltmore. Good info on the additional fees at PCC. Was curious as to the additional car fees would add up. Have to think the bar bill would be hefty too. Ha!

FYI, I was a member briefly at mesa cc, absolutely loved the course. Won't get into why I left, but the fee's at the time I believe was $270/month, $500 annual f&b, and I think it was like $500 initiation to paid off by the time I was 42( I'm 32 now). Long story short, my first months bill was over $400, and I only took a cart if I brought a guest, walked otherwise. It adds up quick!

I looked at it from a cost perspective, and it didnt make sense to stay there. But, I'm married with two young kids, so I only got to use the facilities 2 or 3 times a week. If you're looking at it from a money saving perspective, unless you literally play like 4 times a week, and hit balls the other days, I feel like it's hard to get your money's worth at a club out here in AZ. Especially now with the summer rates.

Before Mesa Cc(fully private), I was with Ahwatukee cc, granted not even close comparing the two, but it was unlimited golf/practice at aheatukee for $200/month. Even at $200, and playing 4 or 5 times(pre kids) I was having a hard time not looking at golfnow and and thinking about how I could play a variety of tracks and probably save $. Hell Ahwatukee has been posting $2 tee times!! Member cart was $14!!

Lol gotta love Tukee CC.. if i ever need a confidence booster that where I go play a quick round.

Hate to say it.. went with my brother about a month ago (hacker) and we had a blast. Course was in above average shape. Dont mean to thread jack.. now to my point.

I gotta agree with fore.. unless you're visiting the club 6 or 7 days a week, you are not gonna be saving money by getting a membership. Not sure if thats the reason. If you want a private club, pull the trigger.. wish i could.

  • 3 months later...

I looked around and took advantage of the low rates in the summer but come 11/1 I'll be a member at Phoenix CC. The junior deal there and the fact I have 7 years left made way to much sense. I played 94 rounds last year. It will be much more affordable to do that and get rid of my membership to The Village and work out at the facility at the club.
