Myrtle Trip - Our Course List & Some questions

Well I am finally heading to Myrtle for the first time with my father, brother and some friends. I am the only one who has not made this trip yet as they go multiple times a year or rent for a summer down there. Wanted to just post our lineup of courses and get your opinions on them. Id rather here it from outsiders rather than their opinions. Some of them are staying longer than myself but I will be there Wed-Sat Night and scheduled to play 36 everyday as of now. Let me know any suggestions you guys may have. HC's in the group range from 6-15.

Wednesday: (Backup here is TPC Mytyle)

1. Prestwick

2. Moorland

Thursday:

1. Caledonia

2. True Blue

Friday:

1. Pawleys Plantation

2. Founders or Heritage

Saturday: (Up in the air if we want to relax before the flight later in the evening)

1. Lions Paw?

Where are you flying out of? Lion's Paw is up in NC, halfway between Wilmington, NC and Myrtle Beach and you may not want the 45 drive after the round back to your airport.

I think your lineup for the days is very good, when i get to the last day i see same issue as the other poster where are you flying from?

Prestwick and Moorland are strong courses with some difficulty but are really nice courses.

Caledonia and True Blue are creme del a creme courses.

Pawley's is wicked and i would go with Heritage over Founders. Founders is spotty with conditions.

To make Saturday work you have to be flying out of Wilmington.

Thursday will be your best day of the trip. A majority of people love Caledonia, and I do to, but True Blue is the course I prefer.

Heritage over Founders based purely on reputation.

Heritage is a thousand times better than Founders. You'll see a ton of gators and it's a beautiful course. Pete Dye theme on day 1? Nice!

Great line up!

I'm another vote for Heritage over Founders. I don't even think it's close. Heritage is a round I'll always remember. Awesome track.

As far as course recommendations aside from the ones you're playing: Willbrook or TPC (South), Kings North (central), Oster Bay or Long Bay (North).

Throw out Lion's Paw, as it's way out of your way, relative to the other courses you've lined up.

Actually, if you want to position yourselves close to the airport for a potential Saturday round, I would play Prestwick at that time, and slot TPC MB in on Wednesday. The farther south you're staying, the more courses will be sensible options on the way to the airport. Litchfield, River Club, Willbrook, Wachesaw East, Indian Wells.

Also, if it's possible, you might consider flipping TB and Caledonia, because playing 18 followed by a drink on the porch at Caledonia while the sun is setting is a beautiful thing. Obviously y'all could just jump over to Caledonia after finishing up at TB, because...

...since you'll be there on a Thursday, that might a Fish Fry night, which may be open to the public (sometimes is, sometimes isn't). I would call and inquire about that.

As long as the weather cooperates, you're in for an excellent trip.

If you're flying out of Myrtle Beach airport, I'd highly recommend TPC Myrtle. I just sold my beach house on that course and played there often when I would go down (a few long weekends throughout the year). It's a very short shot down 17 from the airport.

If you are going to play any of the Big Cat courses play Tiger's Eye. It is by far the best layout there. Some would argue that it is Leopards Chase. I have played all 4, and I would definitely rate Lions Paw at the bottom.

Played True Blue April 26 2015. The greens are not the best. They are fair at best.

Big Cat Courses.....
Leopards Chase and Tiger's Eye tie at the top.
Lion's Paw is the next Best
Panther's Run at the bottom.

If you are flying out of Wilmington, then go up to Carolina National or for a course similar to the others go play Cape Fear National. Cape Fear National is on par(better in my opinion) with Caledonia and True Blue which are the two best you have scheduled so far.

Could not agree with this more. Cape Fear is the hidden gem of the area. It is about an hour away from Myrtle, but completely worth the drive. I would play it now, while it is still affordable. I really think that place is going to become very popular in the next 5 years or so.

The greens at true blue where terrible. Heritage was great. Tpc is a must play. Pawleys was in good condition,I just thought the last few holes, specially the par 3 teeing up on a bridge are terrible.

Caledonia will be forever etched on your mind after this trip! One of the best anywhere. Cape Fear would definitely be a good add on if you end up near Wilmington at all.
BTW- Pawley's Island is WAY south from the Big Cats.

Gotta disagree about Heritage. Nothing like having to shape a low punch 7 iron from 100 yards in the middle of the fairway to avoid a big oak...
