No one would price a used item more then a brand new in package item, so what Im trying to understand is why some feel their used item( even if its been hit only 5 times) is worth $550 while a brand new in package built to your personal specs is $600. I only see this in golf clubs. Baseball/Softball bats, Tennis rackets, Bowling Balls, etc are normally sold for 40-60% of the retail price. Im not bashing anyone here, im trying to have a discussion as to why individuals(golfers) feel their items retain more value than other sports. New v Used in almost everything is a substantial price/cost difference, so what leads someone to believe that their (club/irons/putter) is diffrent

Prove this example. That someone listed (let alone sold) this club for $700, because I absolutely don’t believe it. Sure, someone could list this club for this price, but I guarantee it didn’t sell for anywhere near that amount if it sold. You’ve posted nothing but hyperbole and made-up things in this thread to support your position thus far. Post examples.

This is turning into a prove me wrong vs. you don't know us, let me see if I can help.

I don't like the comparison between golf and bowling to be honest. Even though bowling has more players, it is still a leisure sport for the majority of those players. ANYONE can play without preparedness or knowledge of the game, which is why Topgolf is trending up.

There is a frenzy for acquiring the subjective “best” equipment. I'd bet Wilson did much better in iron sales after Woodland's win vs before. I believe this is driven by TV/sponsor exposure, which bowling just doesn't have at this point. For example, I can't remember the last time a PBA champion talked about what ball or shoes he/she was using on ESPN. So, the buying/selling of bowling balls has more to do with regional discovery, rather than marketed exposure.

I agree with the rest that what you’ve experienced are possible outliers. BST prices are higher than it should be, but only about 5-10%, and there are several additional reasons imo:

**1)Flipping** - I don't know much about bowling, but I doubt individual people buy bowling balls to flip them for profit. However in golf, people often buy limited/new/pre-released equipment to create the most profit from their connections and knowledge of the market.

**2)Condition** - Anything that is new, the desirability will increase because condition matters (think of a brand-new tire vs a used unmounted tire that is like new)

**3)Time** - Golf is a time-consuming and expensive sport. some people just like to pay for what they want regardless of the "deal" because it saves the hassle. Time > $ and people on the opposite end try to benefit from it.

**4)Product Validity** - The original owner has the perception that there is value in ensuring quality and authenticity of the product, especially with the increase of counterfeit goods.

**5)Minimizing Losses** - People impulsively paid retail and want to not get yelled at when the bank statement comes in.

You should also know there are many cheap and amazing deals, but they only last 10 minutes…

There are only more bowlers than golfers because they count anyone that goes bowling. It would be like golf counting anyone that played miniature golf with a loaner putter as a golfer. The golf equipment industry is exponentially bigger than bowling. TGW does more business than all the online bowling retailers combined. Bowling manufacturers measure their sales in tens of millions. Golf manufacturers measure in billions.

Not sure uf your numbers are accurate, but it sure does sound good! Makes sense to me!

One part of this discussion being left out is the popularity or “hotness” of the item in question. When the G400 Max driver went down to $399, I was trying to help a buddy find a used one and best we could do in good-very good condition was about $320. Ended up just getting a new one. I’m guessing you can buy a Cortex used for $200-$250 now, even though it was $500 new 2 months ago.

My favorite is when title says -- "cheap" or "fast sale" or "low price." Most of the time when you look at the item and price its way above any ebay or sale/used prices on retail sites. I still don't understand how folks price items on BST way above ebay prices with fees, etc. I mean where would you sell it, if not for sites like this -- play it again, garage sale or trade in. Good luck getting anything back with those options.
