Older vokey "saw color" question

I have bagged some "non-conforming" vokeys on and off, as they still are conforming for an amateur like me, and I almost never play any competition golf as is.

I'm looking for a new replacement, and have found that I liked the "SM2" circa 2007/2008 more than the "SM3" from 2009.

I know the red saw vs. gold saw designation on the 2009s, with the gold being conforming ("CC") and red being box grooves, but does anyone know the difference between the "white saw" and "black saw" on the previous years? I have found 2 identical wedges (loft/bounce/finish), but one is black saw and the other white... and I have no clue what the difference is.

Anybody know?

Do you have pictures? I’ve read that for those years the color was for bounce. Black-low, red-mid, white-high.

No pics... both are 54.10 oil can finished.

 

At a local shop. Literally the paint fill is the only thing I can tell the difference between them when looking, but it can't be the bounce (unless they are different grinds, which they don't appear to be)

Scratch what I said about the bounce. That color coding applies to the loft and bounce font color. I think saw logo color prior to red was “supposed” to be for finish. White for oil can and black for chrome. I’m no expert though.

That’s kinda where I’m thrown here... both oil can, both 54.10 with what appeared to be exact sole grind. I know the red/gold saw of the 2009s applied to conforming/non-conforming grooves (respectively), but this is the previous year model, so I don’t think they had any "conforming" vs. "non conforming" designations.

Any other insights?

I still play the 2009 Spin Milleds with the box grooves. Gaming the Oil Cans and have a brand new set in Chrome finish to go in the bag once the Oil Can grooves are worn down. I believe the color is for the type of grooves. Red is old grooves and gold is new grooves. The loft and bounce are different colors below the BV logo on the blade cavity portion. Red is mid bounce, white is high bounce, and black low bounce.

The original Spin Milled wedges, which were the ones labeled "SM(loft) - (Bounce) e.g. SM56 - 14" where black saw for tour chrome finish and white saw for oil can. I am unable to find any exception to those other than oil can wedges that appear to have a black saw because the white paintfill was removed. We'll need some good close up pictures to deduce anything further.

It definitely could be that Someone changed the paint fill.

SMCC (aka SM3) - gold saw
