Knock off Swing Speed Trainers...

Recommended Posts

Anyone tried these knock offering speed trainers from Hurricane Golf?

https://www.hurricanegolf.com/accelerator-swing-speed-training-system.html

Initially the weights looked way different but they’re just advertising the tip weights so after 60 gram shaft and grip they are probably pretty close to the swing speeds in overall weight:

TM SIM 10.5 - LA Golf A Series 60

TM SIM Ti 15 - LA Golf A Series 70

Cally OG Apex UW 19 - Smoke Black 80

Cobra One 4 Utility + Forged 6-GW - TT 120 S400

Edison 52, 56 & 60 - TT 120 X100

Odyssey Versa One

Darn it. I just got done building mine today from old shafts and washers I bought from Home Depot. While my total cost outlay was $6 (I already had the shafts and grips), It did take me over 3 hours to do.

I’d guess the SSR readings with this set MAY not be comparable, Club to club, with the other set. But the relationships between the clubs in this set should be similar.

When my horrible craftsmanship fails and the washers fly off the end into a window, I’ll likely order these. :)

Good find.

Yeah that is still a decent amount for not really very much at the end of the day. I made a couple up with some old shafts and lead tape that I found. They don’t look pretty but they do the job...or I assume they would if I actually used them with some regularity.

I don't quite get these.. a normal driver head is ~205g so that's between 2nd and 3rd.. is the idea to swing something light and fast? or heavy and fast?

iron heads are ~240-280g. There are plenty of really old irons that you can find at goodwill stores for $1 each or less.. cut off or grind off portion of that and stick an old shaft in them and you can have any weight combo you wish and next to nothing.

The theory behind it is to swing all 3 as fast as you can. They play basically driver length. The middle weight is close to the actual driver weight. So you swing lighter and heavier, and then same. Both ways left and right.

From my limited experience with the ones I built, I saw my speeds consistently go down over the month of workouts I did. At the end of the month, I was actually swinging left handed faster than I was right handed. Oofda.

I think Bryson, and his coaches, have it figured out. Just swing your driver, with a ball, as fast as you can over and over. Having an SSR and/or a monitor (preferably) would give you the feedback over time. There are a couple of good articles on Golf.com where Bryson got the writer to gain about 8mph on his “normal” swing in one session. Another article is about Summerhayes and how he added a ton of speed and is on tour because of it. All of them using a driver for speed training.

And I’m sure some gym time you don’t see. But the article with the writer gaining with Bryson was pretty good and eye-opening IMO.
