Titleist Tour Model Putter project

This is my latest project. I always wanted to own one of these. Does anybody know what shaft these putters use?

Working on one now. I left the original shaft at home but I can get the dimensions tonight.

Thanks, I wonder what shaft will fit. The shaft in mine bent. It would be really nice if a .370 OD shaft would have a big enough inside diameter to work.

I just measured the post with calipers and it read .340

Sounds like a .370 or .395 shaft should work over a .340 post. Thanks for the help.

I will do that. I want to refinish mine with BOS Golf's Aquamarine finish. Did you weigh the head?

BOS would be the way to go. Mine currently weighs 304.6g. Probably started around 305-306g.

Yours looks terrific, if I didn't have a desire to have an Aquamarine head I would leave mine like yours. I might be tempted to leave it anyway after one of the best putting rounds in a long time.

.340 or thereabouts is a .395 Tip shaft. I'd say that a True Temper version would be your best bet. Nippon makes a .395, or used to, but it had an I.D. of more like .350. I know that it does not sound like much, but .010, when it comes time to fit the shaft to the head, can make it really sloppy.

Best of luck. Those old Tour Models were some very good putters. They were just different enough from the 8802's and IMG's that they had a personality all their own.

Thanks, I'm going to use a True Temper shaft since the original was bent. You are right it is different than my 8802's but it seems to work well on the greens I'm putting on in the Valley of the Sun. I will keep posting pictures, the process of restoring putters is different each time and sharing my experiences should help others.

They might differ +/- 3-4 grams I believe. I know of someone that said their off set model was 312 grams.

Very similar to my offset head. I'm waiting for the shaft to arrive and have put aside a Royal Cord pistol cord putter grip.

This is the test fit of the shaft. And one of those things that happen in restorations. The shaft arrived bent.

The .395 True Temper shaft is more sloppy than I would like. A pretty big wiggle like putting a taper tip iron shaft in a .370 bore. Would it be better to use a .370 shaft with a .322 inside diameter and massage the post a bit if necessary?

The replacement shaft arrived today and is a better fit than the bent one so I'm pleased.

I have not managed to keep up with this thread and I am happy that you received a replacement that is a better fit. If it HAD to happen, sanding down that tip to fit a .370 shaft would not be out of the question, just a time consuming and slightly risky proposition. Trying to get an equal amount removed, so that the tip of the shaft planes in evenly all the way around, could have been a chore. Before I got to the end of the thread, I was already thinking of where my shaft is that I pulled from a Tour Model and if it would be worth sending your way. Glad to see that you've gotten one that fits well and you can be happy with.

The way the shafts are cut, most times there is that very slight roll-over at the tip, that is just enough to prevent a rough edge. Factory fit is usually better than an aftermarket, but not all of the time.

I'm looking forward to the end result, like most in this post have mentioned.

I didn't want to sand down the post either. I'm tempted by you offer about the shaft. I'm getting ready to send the head to BOS Golf for an Aquamarine finish. I'll post some more pictures of the head, the test fit with the new shaft and the Royal pistol grips I have a choice of.

My current grip choices. They are a Royal Paddle, Royal Cords Royal Sand Maxes and a Royal Cobra Pistol. I'm leaning toward the Royal Cord with the white stripe.

BOS has a head of mine, right now. Remember, before I did what I do, I was a hard-core putter junkie, just like a lot of you guys. BOS is making a Scotty Cameron Catalina Two Desert Mountain look like new again. I did the extremely light milling on the face to get that out of the way, pre-shipping. But, all the rest is up to BOS.

Your blade will be a stunner upon return I am sure. Can't wait to see the after shots.

PS, my vote for grip was the Royal Cord with gold lettering. Just one Mann's opinion. You....do you.

Thanks for the vote on the grip. I think I want a sharp edge on the top of a pistol grip. Both Royal cords have it. I didn't realize I was a putter junkie until I made a list of all the blade putters I own, fourteen. Then I made a list of all the Ping putters I own, eleven. All I can say in my defense is I've never gotten rid of any putter I used over fifty years.

Found a True Temper .395 fluted putter shaft. If it fits the putter will look close to stock.
