Ping G710 iron review

Just coming off 2 range sessions and one round with the new irons. I must admit they performed as advertised. They are very long and very forgiving. They are also loud as hell. The feel and the sound are terrible but I think I can get past the crappy feel if they keep performing like they did in week one. I will say the feel is way better with my pro v1’ gamers on the course compared to rock hard range balls. I would suggest to anyone in the market for the g710’s is to make sure you use a softer ball as your gamer. I went with the g710’s because of the reported high launch, more distance and forgiveness. As I’m in my mid 50’s now and losing distance it seems by the day, these irons are just what I needed.They are about 5-10 yards longer than my TItleist 718 AP1’s. I also went with a lighter graphite shaft after 30 plus years in steel shafts. Even though I only hit them 3 times I can tell these might be the most forgiving irons I’ve ever hit. Using TopTracer at my 2 range sessions, the ball speeds and distance were excellent even on miss hits. Currently with my hcp at 12, I could have maybe gone with something in the players distance category, but after hitting a bunch of different irons over the past couple months I’m glad I went with the Ping g710’s.

OK it was a hard decision for three years ago when I bought my taylor-made P790 over PXG. I am very pleased that I went with the taylor-made as they have been the best clubs to date. There comes a time when brand loyalty takes over as I do have to wait till the 1st week of Aug but this going to be an early 65th birthday gift to me. My P790 were the original one in 2017 as I don't think an upgrade to the 2019 would have been worth it so I stuck with what I had. When the black ones came out I almost pulled the trigger just based on looks. Couldn't justify it. When the G710's came out I really became interested in them as I've owned so many different PING models as my favorite's were the S55's. These have a resemblance as I ordered 4 thru PW Red dot Aerotech I80 as I'm getting real close to retirement as this is also my retirement set.

Im not expecting big gains in yardage, forgiveness feel but to say I know I made a good decision by coming back to PING make me feel good although not cheap but neither were my P790's. I'm not about to go PXG as I've seen so many un happy golfers who regret their purchase for whatever reason doesn't matter. So I guess I came back to the dark side as the durability seems to be the best out there when compared to any other black OEM brand. I will miss my P790's I'm sure but it's good to be back home. Hurry up August get here as I can't wait

If I keep hitting my G700 6i this well..... I can definitely see me getting a full G710 set

 

Took a long time to get accustomed to the size, especially heel to toe. The results speaks volumes though

I have maybe 10 rounds on my 710s and liking them more every round. I think I gained a half to full club over my G400s and hit the ball higher. I have hit some extreme toe shots that went high and straight.

+1 for g710’s. Moved from 410’s and certainly longer and higher. Not sure how long the black will last but it is easy on the eyes.

I’ve read a few posts that state the black is holding up fairly well. They’re definitely on my short list (along with the upcoming JPX921 and ZX5 offerings).

Not sure about the g710 black finish but the black on my Cobra T-Rail irons was holding up very well. Until I took them to a couple grass ranges with sandy soil. Definitely started to mess up the black face on my cobras.

After 10-15 rounds my 710s are not showing any wear at all. Now if they do start to mark up I know a black sharpie can cover a lot of sins, I used that trick on some custom wheels I had.
