My new toy ! Callaway Diablo Octane Black Tour Driver

In great WRX tradition, after I started having serious driver issues, I did what any hardcore WRX'er would do; buy more gear! Callaway Preowned had a thing going and I got this driver, in "very good condition", delivered to the mailbox for $140. They had a discount code which really helped.

The club is in absolutely great shape. The grip is brand new and the head looks hardly hit. A few months ago, I went to a local golf store and hit a bunch of drivers to see if I could get my back spin down. This was the best of the lot, giving me spin between 2900 and 3000. Everything else I tried was at least 1000 more. Took the pics with the ipad, tried to keep my feet out of the pictures!

They sent it out real quick and it came with the proper head cover, despite the description saying they ship it with a new generic Callaway cover. This is the second club I have bought from them and both clubs were in FAR better condition than I expected.

Going to take it to the range tomorrow, can't wait!

Good looking club and I am loving my razr fit TA but it will get booted out as soon as I get my hands on a 913.

I think you made a great choice, I have a 8.5* as my back-up to the Razr-fit, the Octane is an awesome club, but, the Razr is sublime ....I still enjoy hitting the Octane at the range to keep my eye in with it, great sound!!

Going to go work on my swing and pound this club after work tomorrow, will write a review when I get a chance (ball exploded of club face, boring trajectory, 30 yards extra, etc etc.!)

Is that a 7.0 Project X shaft?

Is that significantly stiffer than th 6.5?

I'm really looking forward to your review. I've actually been looking at these drivers the past few days. I love callaway pre-owned and the price is tough to beat!

The shaft is not a 7.0. It is a 7C7, a dreaded "made for" shaft by Project X . It is a 6.0 or stiff. According the guys that only use the real deal, this is not as stiff as the real thing. Here is an old thread about it:

Congrats! That is a great head and I came close to buying one but was turned off by Callaway's stubbornness to only provide one shaft option.

It's in awesome shape...good luck with her.

Quick update, just played my last round here in Palm Springs. Still getting used to a new driver with a flawed swing. All I can say so far is that the club-turf interaction is excellent!

For no other reason than I've never owned anything by Callaway I'm looking into the Razr's for the spring. Keep us posted.

Another update. Our weather up here has been pretty wet for the most part and I have been busy. Got down to the range today to try and get my groove back and started hitting them quite well halfway through the session. I posted an awful swing video here a while ago and I believe I have fixed most of that. Will try update that sometime and upload.
In the meantime, I have really come to like this driver. The head/shaft combination is solid and when you connect, it feels really good. It is pretty square at address, as opposed to my 9032LS which I felt was slightly more open. Despite the 7*C weather and crappy range balls, I was getting good distance. I find this shaft easy to load and relatively smooth, looks like it fits my swing speed (105) and my vicious transition.
Sad thing is, I have to wait till the spring to hit it in any half decent weather

BTW, just in case someone thought I was serious, the club/turf interaction comment a few posts ago was in jest

Oh and the driver is pretty, had one or two people wanting to take a look.
