Help - Distance lost after switching to CTaper

The last few months I have been gaming a set of Mizuno JPX825 pro that came with NSpro 950GH in Stiff. These irons outperforms the Taylormade R9tp with KBS Tour that I used before. With my new JPX825 4 iron I am able to hit 200 yards from the tee box. I have always been a high ball hitter and I play on a super soft course, with the NSpro my ball flight is much higher than than the KBS that I used to have and now I get zero roll from my 4 iron.

 

I think I have messed with a good thing when I reshafted the 4 iron with Ctaper stiff. I was at the range today with the reshafted 4 iron and my first impression is that the Ctaper is much stiffer than the Nspro. After hitting 30 balls I found that I lost at least 20+ yards. Although the ball flight is much lower than before, the reshafted 4 iron has the same carry as the 6 iron when I hit one after the other.

 

Did I lose distance because of the increased weight of the shaft? or is the flex in the Ctaper too much for me? combination of both?

 

Since I only reshafted one iron, should I just give up and put the NSpro back on or is there a way to fix this problem?

You need to give up a bunch more info about your swing and what flex C Tapers you installed before anyone on here can give you any solid advice

Npro's have a mid bend and are much lighter, contributing factors towards high trajectory and distance. C-Tapers, on the other hand have much higher bend, stiffer tips and are heavier; designed to bring the ball down; in the wrong hands less distance. Someone that is successful with the former, is not likely to be successful with the later.

Swing type is more of a sweeper that hardly take a divot. Higher than normal ball flight. Swing speed 95-100, seven iron carries 150 yards.

The shaft in question is Ctaper in S flex, probably should have it soft stepped.

Used to play the KBS tour also in S with no problem. Still have those in the closet, maybe I should give those a try.

Cast & scoop- shaft ain't gonna help that........

No leverage -> no shaft lean -> no divot -> not enough spin for the CTs -> no distance.

Down to 8i, I sweep/pick the ball as well. Above you say 200yards with 4i and old shaft; which is long. Here you say 150yd carry with 7i. Sounds odd. Typically people do not realized longer carry yardages with long irons when 7i is only 150 carry. Example: I play a different profile shaft, but carry 7i 150+, my 4i is 180+ carry, in benign conditions. Carry is all I concern myself with because roll is nothing to speak of.

Aside from weight differences, KBS tour profile is more like your NPros'; both have active tip sections due to mid bend.

I think it's combination of all three. Usually will lose distance if you go with a heavier, stiffer and lower-launching shaft for your longer irons. The NS Pro 950 is already one of the lightest iron shafts out there. f you want more distance from your 4 iron, you'll have to go graphite IMO.

The C-Taper is much stiffer to flex than the nspro 950h. You are not spinning the ball enough.
