Greens recovering from plugging and sanding ???

Our club and a couple of the better munis around here plugged and sanded their greens today. They usually do this right when the green have reached perfection but I digress.

 

What is the average recovery period, in your experience, before the greens will become playable again without the sand affecting the putting ?

I think it really depends on how and the level of experience the grounds keeping team has. I have played some courses where they plugged and sanded and 3 weeks later the greens were still horrible but others where the greens were in pretty good shape just 5 days after.

Around 14 days before they are actually "playable" to the point where you won't have any crazy plinko putts. But i would say just about a month or so before they are back to normal.

The best time to aerate greens is when they are in great shape because they won't have any issues healing and in theory will become wen better than they were with time.

in the southeast US, aerating during the hottest time of the year usually allows courses greater surfaces during more comfortable playing times, like sept-early november. aerating now also help speed up recovery times, as stated earlier.

Deep punch on our Champion greens requires 5-6 weeks. Light punch back in 2-3 weeks.

Courses around here that I play all seem to punch their green close to the same weeks. First time is around the first part of May and the second is now around the middle to end of August.

If courses are on this pattern of punching them twice a year would you expect that it would be a deep punch or a light punch? My guess would be deep punch, but I dunno?

First 3-4 years we punched at least 3 times. Now not as much but he does verticut and sand every few weeks.

Depends also on the weather. A good rain following aeration will do wonders.
