Has anybody else noticed that newer Camerons (Circas, Detours, Studio Styles) have similar or even less trade in value than older models?

 

My 8 year old Newport has more trade in value than a new Circa bought a week ago.

 

Seems like they're not holding their value like they used to. I'm not talking about collectors, I understand that everybody likes the classics, just seems like the depreciation has gone downhill.

Try holding a circa for 8 years... then lets see the market price. In all seriousness, they are just different styles, different looks, and now people prefer the older models. So in say 2015... our circas will sell for more then what we paid for them ;)

Here's my take...you won't be able to find mint pre-2000 Scottys as easily as finding a Circa. So, you have a lot of choices when you are looking for a Circa. However, finding mint oil cans or gun blues are pretty tough.

 

Also, are you looking at original gamers, mint, or restored?

 

I am willing to spend more on pre-2000 putters than I am on 2000 and newer sticks.

furthermore, people can get newer models, well. . .new. and if most people opt for the brand new model, there is less of a market for 2nd hand models. but with older models the supply is limited, thus people are willing to pay more of a premium. like the above post said, wait 8 years and see what the current models go for. . .

I'm just talking about depreciation. If you bought a Studio Design when they came out, it wasn't worth a third of what you paid for it 6 months later.

 

It might be because the used guys are all using the PGA Value Guide and not making up a trade in value.

I would simply add that the "older" Camerons are better putters both functionally and aesthetically....That's right...I said it ;) .........Most of them were made before the Cameron machine reallly got rolling and were beautiful versions of tried and true designs.....The circa's really don't offer anything special other than a questionable grip and hard to maintain finish...I'd much rather have an old Newport/Catalina/Tel3, etc. than anything he's churning out now...with the exception of an 009 of course....I now fully expect the Cammyheads to come after me.....Flame away...

Like all camerons and cameron accessories, the prices are sky high for a month or two, dip substansially, then slowly climb over time.

Only exceptions for me are tours and 009s. Anything 2000+ don't interest me. I do however play with a Circa 3 350g and think the design of the Circa line is great. Also, the finish on the Circas are the same as that of the TeI3s and the gun blue line of 95-97 so I wouldn't single out finish issues with just the Circas.

I play a circa, and i like how it looks. It looks simple, not flashy with all these colors, just a pure, classic look. Wether its quality is as good as ones 8 years ago, i do not know.

I think it's because a large segment of the putting public doesn't like inserts and don't like the finish on the 2006 Circa's. The only way to avoid those is to buy an older model. That's why I've bought some Studio Stainless and Pro Plats lately.

I agree with Hairpie. The newer Camerons I've tried seem too 'flashy' in both looks and feel.

 

The increased value of older putters is a positive thing for those who collect, much like classic cars and furniture. It shows there is a market.

 

I would expect a Jaguar XK-E, for example, to hold its value. Whereas I'd also expect a new Jag to dive by 30% as soon as I drove it from the showroom.
