Tad moore putter help

got a tm20 whats it made from??(pics added)

I recently bought a tad moore by dunlop TM20 putter thanks to the very attractive price. I was hoping to try and do a refinishing my self with maybe some gun blue or a blum brown. i was wondering two things:

what the putter is made from?
and what is the finish on it?

Carbon steel, stainless someones got to know......
also does it matter what the metal is if want to add the new finish to it.

Not sure what the putter is made of. I have some Tad Moore putters, mostly carbon steel. But, I do have one that is stainless. It is called out though, on the name, I believe.

I would venture to guess that yours is carbon steel. If so, the gun blue will take, no problem. Just clean it, VERY WELL. I learned the hard way that tiny little fingerprints will leave a smidgeon of oil and will waste an attempt at blueing.

If it is stainless steel, you won't have any luck with the gun blue, alum. oxide, or similar colorings.

I won't get into that subject, but I'll cross my fingers that it is carbon steel.

I think that one's stainless. Dunlop sold those around 2001-2002 or so, and new they were like $60. I find it tough to believe that they would use a more expensive, less durable material for a putter in that price range.

im not a metal expert but does stainless rust??? the reason i ask this is because i have noticed some little rust spots where the finish is gone, maybe that will help identify it.

 

also is there any test i could do at home to see what metal it is?

 

last but not least how would i remove the finish from a putter like this?
