I don't Drew that well, perhaps a bit more than some others here, as we live in the same general area, but really I only or mostly know him from his posts and a few emails/PMs.

For those that were following the thread on the platinum gripmaster putter covers, long story short, Drew said he was getting one for me, no charge, no reason - just because. Well, yesterday, he drove to the house and dropped it off - I was not able to thank him face to face (but my daughter - I hope did). So, first order of business, Thanks Drew. Your generosity was very very much appreciated. I hope to join the 'pay it forward' ranks soon myself - in some ways I know that I have, heck a lot of us have, but frankly, there is nothing like getting something that is both unexpected and something that is nice.

If any of you ever have a chance to work with Drew, I expect you will have similar sentiments. I look forward to installing this grip on a gamer putter (likely my vons, it just feels good).

A tip for those (I ripped this from another site) looking to back weight - Clevis pins - 1/2" by whatever (up to 3") will slip almost perfectly into the shaft. I have removed the grip cap from the current putter grip (not Drews), and am testing out different weights. When you find the weight you want, you just glue it into the shaft with some caulk let it dry then regrip. It will extend the shaft about 1/4" give or take. I will backweight before installing the grip.

Tip number 2 - an industry professional recommended that I install this new (the Drew grip) grip witth air and masking tape - no solvent, no double stick tape. He sent me to a site where I could view a video and buy the air nozzle that makes it work. So, I am going to try that too.

So, to sum up - Drewspin, one of the classiest, if not THE classiest member of this or any other board that I have had the distinct pleasure to deal with. It's people like him that make participating in boards like this worthwhile, it's folks like him that make it interesting reading and learning.

I wish I had not missed Drew, as I would have liked to try that putter of his on the carpet too.

Anytime, Jeff. Thank you for the very kind words. I had the boys and my wife in tow for a little practice time yesterday, otherwise I would have stayed to chat and share the new putters with you.

 

When the grass starts growing again (soon, I think) and the greens are less bumpy. I'm going to line up some locals for some unbiased reviews of the Channel Islands Turf Surfer and the new Byron 7 (007).

 

Harry and James at GripMaster have been very generous and they take customer service to new levels, always going above and beyond. It's my pleasure to pay it forward.

 

Post back how the air install goes. It's the way to go if you can master the technique... I am looking forward to trying that myself soon.
