Monday Qualifiers.. ??

I never had a problem with the PGA Tour not having Monday Qualifiers on the main tour, but always looked forward to the day I could find the time to experience a bucket list opportunity on the Champions Tour (yes I'm over 50 now), and/or the lesser tour (Nationwide/Web.com).. Now that the PGA has changed the whole set up with Q-schools.. The Sr Tour eliminated their Monday Qualifiers, but did the Web.com follow suit, or do they still support local talent that can't afford the time and $ on a possible tour card? Anyone have current info on this topic?

The PGA Tour still has Monday qualifiers.

A friend of mine Monday qualified for the Greenbrier last year.

Also, my brother-in-law belongs to a private club in Charlotte NC that hosts Monday qualifiers for the Wells Fargo at Quail Hollow.

I thought so... Just now they have pre-qualifiers... Do a google search and you will see a few stories of guys getting in... ie case cochrane ect

From what I understand 2014 is the first year of the Q-school changes.. PGA Tour wanted players to not jump into main tour events.. From what I understand the only way for players to get a Tour card is to go thru Web.com tour first, starting 2014.. I am unsure tho if these changes effect the Champions tour, or Web.com tour.. I've been trying to google current 2014 info, but nothing so far.. I ask this cause Web.com is coming to Cleveland in June and I wanted to do a Monday gig if possible.. I may end up calling the Event course today and find out..

PS edit.. Yea.. I just found an article about the Wells Fargo Monday qualifier.. grrrrr I wish the info and applications were easier to find.. LOL

web.com has monday qualifiers as a wrx'er posted a couple weeks ago about competing in one. It was a Georgia event.

Go to web.com tours page and on the right side there is an Icon for Monday qualifying info with all the info you need

The local PGA sections run the qualifiers. They all have websites with all the entry information.

PGA still does their pre-quals to get into the monday qual. Phx (waste management open) for example had I believe 4 pre-qual sites that took 6 and ties to the monday. The monday has many exempt spots, not just guys who pre-quald. From the monday, they took 3 to the actual event.

I read interesting article which pointed out it would be better if only exempt players could Monday qualify. It is already hard enough for some of these guys to get in enough events.

Sorry can't find it but that makes sense.

Is this it? The article says its restructuring to create more opportunities for exempt players but not doing away with qualifiers. Here it is pulled from the article "[color=#000000][size=3]n most open events, the Q-schoolers and Web.com players will now be afforded four exemptions (up from two) while unrestricted exemptions (which can be given to anyone) will be reduced to two from four."[/size][/color]

Maybe you're looking at a cached page of the old website, but the new site is awful. No information about open qualifying and terrible to navigate.

there's no way they'd get rid of monday qualifiers for outside people because the money is too good.

They cash-in on the dream by selling $200+ entry fees for pre-quals and then get another $200 if they make the monday.

it's all about the $$.

Matt, that's actually insanely cheap for any competitive professional event, let alone a chance to play on the PGA Tour. I don't think there's an Excel column on their budget spreadsheet for Monday qualifier income.

These days the Champions Tour Qualifying requires jumping through two hoops for most guys. A pre-qualifier is usually scheduled the Thursday or Friday before tournament week.

You can still "monday qualify" for the champions tour, my buddies uncle qualified for the Shaw Open in Calgary last summer.

Wait a second. They changed Q-school so you can't jump straight to the "big" Tour...but you can Monday qualify, win the main event, and get your card (and a Masters invite).

Six rounds of solid golf (assuming a pre-qual, monday qual, and 72 hole event) to get your card vs. what, two separate 72 hole "stages" plus a 90 hole "final"?

The pre and Monday qualifiers for the Travelers this year are at a fairly prestigious private club in the area (though I had never heard of it until a few weeks ago). Now to whittle my handicap below 2 over the next week!

Got a call from a woman I would like to get to know and didn't get to finish this post.

If you get through the pre-Q the Event Qualifier is Monday or Tuesday of tournament week.

So a golfer must be ready to invest up to a week of travel and expenses just to get into the main event. Now imagine doing that for ten to fifteen tournaments. A very serious commitment in time and money.

The two best Senior Tournaments to try qualifying for are the British Senior Open and the US Senior Open. Each of those has just one 18 hole Q. Of the two the British Senior Open is the "easier"(no qualifier is easy). At the British a golfer will be teeing it up for 10 to 20 spots. That makes the trip across the pond worth the gamble.
