Hard or Soft?

What is the best way to travel with a golf bag, hard case or soft case? I bought a Club Glove a couple years ago with the understanding that most professionals use this. Intuitively, you'd think the hard case is better for airline use, but I hear that they frequently burst under the weight of other bags.

What's the best way to protect your investment?

I use a Club Glove and I've never had a problem.

Club Glove with the pole works great. Easy to travel and fit in any rental car.

I have a last bag and use the arm to protect my woods. I think I will ship my clubs ahead of time now through luggage express or golfbagexpress.

My father has been UPS'ing his bag too and from Hawaii. It's a little pricey but he likes not having to deal with the hassle at the airport and rental car.

club glove last bag is what i use, fits my big staff bag perfectly & everything i need to that tour stop. i also have a TM travel bag that ive seen going for 350!!! aweful lot for that bag but its very nice just like the "last bag". they are both soft but fits snug so theres no moving around of your clubs.

Dont forget they sell a "stiff arm" that helps strenghten the travel bag.

Ive never heard of any hard cases bursting. Ive had one for a long time and so have many of my friends.

my club glove last bag is great, but I like my TM travel cover better because it fits my staff bag a bit more snugger, my stiff arm works in it, & its got my name on it!

I used a Club Glove for several years...great product. For the last 2 years or so I've been using a hard cover. I have the SKB Freedom. It's the only hard cover I've found that's easy to fit in a trunk. It's a two piece design, kind of like a medicine capsule. The top half fits into the bottom for easier storage and transport. It's big enough for my Ping J bag, a couple pair of shoes, rain suit, box of balls, etc. While it's pretty convenient for a hard case, it's not quite as convenient as a soft bag that can be folded up.

 

Most airlines won't insure clubs in soft cases. Some make an exception of the "Last Bag". With the hard case, I don't have to worry about any rough handling and busted clubs.

I have a soft bag. I have done limited travel, but I have had no problems. I also use the stiff arm, which is a MUST for soft bags.

 

Hard cases will offer more protection, BUT they are a real pain to travel with, and are a challenge for most rental cars. Value and ease of use give the edge to soft bags, just be carefull in packing them and you will have no problem.

I have a soft case and has served me great. I fly anywhere from 1 to 5 times a year with my clubs.

I have used a hard bag since 97 and travelled all over the world and never had a problem, but i am not a pro so i am sure they do more travel than I do although i do a bunch,

Has anyone used or has purchased the Callaway Hybrid travel bag? It looks like a staff bag, with an easily removeable shoulder carry strap. The bag itself has a hard plastic body/inner liner, with a top rectangular hard case to enclose the clubs. This top latches on with 2 nice, solid metal luggage like clips. It also has inline skating wheels and the header card states that it will fit a full set, max. club height of 48" (I think?). I'd be more interested in this bag if I were ever to travel. I believe it's around $200?

I have been using Glub Glove with a stiff arm. Fits nicely in rental cars and big enough to hold shoes and some clothing. Very happy with it.

i use a hard case with some extra straps to make sure. i've heard horror stories of folks getting drivers snapped and clubs dinged pretty bad. although the airline *should* be responsible (even if you sign that form) they make it way hard to get compensated if something does happen. thus the hard case.

some airlines, like southwest, has a separate "club areas". when the clubs get on a plane, they are placed in a particular area. same with the bag area. some airlines make you show an ID to claim clubs. awesome.

Agree. CG is quality and, like said above, never had an issue.
