I was lucky enough to play Castle Pines once through a Corporate Sponsor of The International when it was still a PGA stop. This company was one of the title sponsors of the tournament and I was good friends with some Sales managers. They were allowed 2 foursomes on a weekday about 6 weeks after the tournament and I got to play. It's not my favorite layout of all time, but man, to this day I still have not played a better conditioned golf course. It was really unbelievable. The only course I've set foot on that was more impressive from that standpoint was Augusta when I was there as a patron. Anyway, REALLY tough greens on Castle Pines. I hit the ball really well that day and still shot in the 80s due to numerous 3-putts. The forecaddy would give me a read and I'd have to resist the urge to admit that I had the putt going the opposite way.

Great pics and write-up. I'm very jealous of your opportunity. I have played Prairie Dunes and if some of the others rank higher (like Sand Hills) that's pretty awesome.

A question for anyone here: if you were choosing between a trip to Bandon Dunes and a Nebraska trip (Sand Hills, maybe Dismal and/or the Prairie Club) which would you pick?

I've done both and for me Bandon is better for a couple of reasons. All courses on the same property is the largest factor....it can be a lot of driving on the NE trip. I think food is better at Bandon. Value: IMO, the overall value for what you get is a little better - example is the cost of food and drink.

Not a knock by any means on the NE trip....but when faced with the choice...I will(and am ) going to Bandon.

Man you got to play some nice tracks. Caddying at Flint Hills National was actually my first job when I was 14 years old. Tough track man. Prairie Dunes is also another tough track as well.

glad you enjoyed Prairie Dunes. i haven't played too many of the top tracks (headed to southern hills at the end of sept though, and flint hills the week prior), but it really is a special place, and i'm very lucky to play here every day and live basically right behind 18 tee.
