metro detroit/ann arbor clubs

hey guys and girls,

 

i was wondering if anyone had some insight into any golf clubs around the area. I was looking for something with a course and pool. The trick is that im 27 so i dont have $30k to put down for a membership somewhere awesome like oakland hills. Im just looking for a relatively nice place that would be nice for me and my non golfing wife and daughter to go and have some fun. Oh, and it would need to be relatively (or very?) inexpensive.

You might need to narrow down your title a little bit. There is a big gap between Ann Arbor and Metro Detroit. From my experience and talking to other members of clubs I am firm believer that if you do not live close to your club you will not get as much out of it. After joining a club 3 years ago I couldn't agree more with this.

I am in Oakland County and for your parameters (pool, golf, price) I think there a few options. Paint Creek, Indianwood, and Great Oaks. Oakland University offers good membership options, but there is no pool (just golf). Another option might be Red Run in Royal Oak, but I don't know what their fees are.

I live in canton, so im basically dead center of ann arbor and detroit. Thats why i was so vague in my title.

I've heard good things about Polo Fields in Ann Arbor. Get access to two courses and a pool. I think it's pretty reasonable.

Yes, check out Polo Fields. It is a non-equity club so you won't have to put down a large initiation fee or purchase stock. The only other affordable club might be Western Golf & Country Club in Redford. They have a Donald Ross course and a nice swimming pool. Western is a member-owned club so you might have to pay initiation fees and/or purchase stock.

My brother is head pro at Travis Pointe CC in Ann Arbor. Nice track, really tough. I know they have indoor and outdoor pool, and a younger membership. I have no idea on the membership fees.

thanks guys, polo fields seems pretty reasonable, im gonna have to check that out. Travis pointe has a pretty high initation fee, About $10k depending on membership type.

Try Western in Redford. Greens are always real good.

I have played both Western and Polo Fields and both are good options. Most others in the area are going to require an initiation fee. You get two courses with Polo Fields, each very different. I'm really not sure how much social that club is. Western is down on members but a great club with good people. The pool is great, they have a playground for the kiddies but the tennis program is pretty dead these days.

In South Lyon, you have Walnut Creek. A great family club but a little $$$. Brighton has Oakpointe.
