New shaft for older irons

Hi all

I got a set of Callaway X-14 Pro Series from a friend for a steal. I saw they were rated highly, so I got them. I am getting back in after not playing for quite awhile. I currently have Ping Eye 2 + irons with the ZZ lite (or whatever the original was) shaft. Those are what I've played forever and can keep them straight.

I have a fairly fast swing, but no idea of the number. 6 iron is usually around 180(ish) with the Eye 2's. I know that I need to get used to the new clubs, so there is that, but the shaft on the X-14's is a Rifle 6.5. What I read is that is WAY too much for me. I'm wondering would I be better getting a cheapish set of TT Lite shafts for awhile? Go with Dynamic Gold? I'm not sure if I would need a R or S flex, but I know the XS is WAY over my head.

Don't know anything about the ZZ lite's but the most important thing for most people is generally to find an equivalent weight match. Flex really is more a secondary issue when it comes to control and accuracy.

A stiffer shaft than your used to is only potentially a problem from the perspective of feel (not strictly performance). It would only be "way too much" for you IF and only if the fact that it felt stiffer bothers you and/or results in you swinging differently.

I've just recently picked up a set of like new Ping Zing 2 irons with a senior flex Loomis graphite shaft. I've thought about having them reshafted with something new, or wait til that flex fits me. It feels most days, that it could be sooner than later. They look like they could be fun to hit.

ZZ Lites that came standard in Pings are X flex so I'd try the Callys with the 6.5s first. 180 with a 6i and those lofts of late 80s clubs (weaker than modern) is a big poke, relatively speaking. You can always change the shafts out later...
