Burlington VT area courses

I am going to be flying into Burlington Vt in the early part of October and I am going to have the better part of a day to kill. Any suggestions on courses semi near the airport that I should be looking at playing? I arrive at about 9:30am and I will have to pick up my wife from the airport in the late afternoon or early evening so I don't want to get too far out of the area.

Vermont National in South Burlington is a tough Nicklaus design. I think its private though (if you are a member at a club perhaps your pro could give them a call). There is a pretty solid executive course in Essex Jct (Links at Lang Farm).

Ditto to both. VT National isn't private. Could try Williston as well.

Thanks for the suggestions. I had looked at the Links at Lang Farm but I didn't realize it was an executive 18. I just looked at Williston and it seems like a good option too.

This is my first time to Vermont, what is the weather typically like in early October?

This is incorrect. Vermont National is most definitely private.

You may be confusing Green Mountain National down toward Killington, which is public.

To the OP re weather, it will be cold in Burlington that time of year unless you get lucky. In my view golf season doesn't go much past October, if at all, unless you don't mind playing when it's pretty damn cold. Time to get the skis out...

Nope, just was mistaken. I've played it a few times but it must have been as an unaccompanied guest and I just didn't realize it. It's a nice course but I don't like the section of the course that's surrounded by homes. The part of the course on the clubhouse side of the road is nicer, in my opinion.

Kwiniaska is nearby to Vermont National and public...long course. Burlington Country Club is super but a private club. Weather in October can be iffy...bring sweaters, rain suit, short sleeve and long sleeve shirts...be prepared for anything.

That time of year, don't expect to get out at 10:00, those 9:00 guys could get backed up due to frost delay. Welcome to Vermont, could have a 2 hour frost delay, could be 65 and sunny. Best of luck and safe travels.

I played Williston golf club today. I really enjoyed the course and thought it was a fun layout. The crushed limestone bunkers were different. Thanks for the suggestion guys, good times.
