Face Remilling

Anybody on here done it

I have a putter that i would like the face remilled on but am not sure what to do. The cheapest place i could find i going to run me about 70 buck total. Are there any cheaper options out there. The face isnt that bad but i put great with it and it has become my game so i want to show it some TLC

It all depends on how flat the face initially is and how it is clamped when machined. If the machinist is able to clamp the putter so the loft angle is offset almost perfectly, heel-toe is at the same level and the face is reasonably flat to begin with, only about .005" should need to be removed(or even less if the face is very flat and it can be clamped perfect). This would result in the loss of 1-2 grams.

 

Also, does this machine shop know that the putter has loft, ie. that the face is not perpendicular to the sole? If not, this could raise the cost as this requires slightly more complicated clamping methods (clamped in angle vise, face indicated) than if the loft was 0*.
