Hosted my first tournament

This past weekend I played host to a charity scramble at my local club. I'm the vice-chairman of a non-profit leadership development program and when our board was talking about fundraiser ideas, a golf tournament was mentioned. Naturally, since I've played in a zillion of these things since I work at a community bank, I was nominated to chair this event. It didn't help my cause that no other fundraising committee member plays golf. (The horror, I know!) 8 months of planning, gathering teams and sponsors paid off in a huge way. Our fist event garnered 24 teams (4man) and our evening event was full beyond capacity. I just wanted to share since I was proud of our fundraising committee for their effort and thankful for the golfers and attendees all day long. I can't wait for next year and all future Saturday's After The Masters!

The non-profit I'm currently serving as vice-chair of is called Pulaski Tomorrow. We started as a partnership with the University of Georgia as part of their Archway Partnership. Essentially they go into rural areas and, with the volunteering of local residents, help see through initiatives and ways to make those communities better. Our organization came from that and we have since obtained non-profit status and as a standalone entity, we have to raise our own funds. We facilitate adult and youth leadership classes as well as serve other local efforts. It was fun for sure and it's awesome to use this great game to bring a community together for a great cause.
