Karsten Putter Torched

After seeing all the wonderful threads here I was inspired to breath some life into my office carpet putter.

 

I took my karsten zing circa 2006? I only remember that I played it predominately in High School, and laid it on the gas bbq for about a half hour. This was my attempt at experimentation without dropping a lot of money on the project.

 

I am loving the way it came out, at least for my first attempt. My idea was to have my wife choose the colors for paintfill (in progress) and finished shade adding some more sentimental value to an old friend.

 

She wanted a bronze/gold finish, I wanted blue/purple, and I think that this was a good compromise. There are a few spots of blue and the neck reached a nice purple shade.

 

I think the basemetal on these was 17-4 SS, but am not really sure. I couldn't find a post where someone tried to torch, or mod one of these.

Thanks! I've added some green and yellow paintfill. Reminds me of the old bronze pings sans paint.

Wow. That looks great. Never would have thought you can grill a putter. Does the grate leave marks that needed cleaned up and did you have to flip it?

I used the side of my grill with a stainless steel pot setting. Not sure if it would leave grill marks, but I did not have any marks from this technique. As long as the heat transfer is good to the head it should not leave any marks as you're just trying to get the metal hot. I used a laser thermometer I use for cooking to keep tabs on the head temp. I also periodically rotated from face down, to the club sitting on the sole.
