Competing within 9 hole league

My league plays 9 holes with 4 points available 2 for best ball 2 for medal. Yesterday was our first week and I was playing well my partner was playing to his handicap. We found ourself in better position nearly every tee shot and our opponents were pulling shots out from everywhere at one point they made three consecutive birdies.

On the 9 th hole we/I missed a 15ft to tie match and medal. As I look back I was playin with confidence and I just assumed my opponents hdcp would catch up with them and we would run away with the match. Clearly this didn't happen and I ran out of holes.

What do my fellow wrxers do to preform at there best in a short nine hole match?

This is amateur golf, so you don't have to conquer your opponents, you just have to play smarter. Play strategic golf and beat them down with consistency. Even if you have to hit iron off of every tee, or at least one guy in your team, it ensures you never give the hole away. You want to make them earn a victory on every hole against you. Most amateur leagues, there's at least a few holes that they play dumb and run into trouble, and that's when you step on their throats. You also have to remember, you're playing with handicaps so you're helpless to their level of honesty.

My league is a solo stableford scoring league. I wish there was more competition, such as a team match play or even a two man scramble.

Our league is handicapped, 9 holes. Each hole is worth 1 pt, with the match worth 1 pt for a total of 10 pts available each night. Total strokes after hdcp wins the hole, total pts thru the 9 holes wins the match. It is a BLAST!

Handicaps = not a competition. You can't compete in anything with handicaps involved. If every player belongs to a club and keeps an honest USGA handicap that is verifiable over a few year time span, then maybe. Most people do not.

[/quote]Our Fri night league is same way except it's 12 pts per match, A vs A and B vs B....and it is a blast!
