Golf courses in the Northampton area

I would like to see if you guys have any recommendations for courses near Northampton, MA. My cousin graduates from Smith next weekend and I would like to play some golf since I will be up there.

If you can't get on The Orchards in Holyoke (Private - Donald Ross - Hosted US Womens Open) then your best bet is Hickory Ridge in Amherst - a pretty decent public course - I've played there maybe 7 times and enjoyed it everytime, a good test from the back tees.

If your willing to drive 20 minutes North- Crumpin Fox in Bernardston is very good, scenic, well conditioned, challenging, etc

I did some research and I think I will play at Crumpin. Would love to check out Taconic but steep!

Hickory almost always has Groupon rates for twosome or 4some. You could also play either of the Belchertown courses, [b]Cold Spring[/b] or [b]Mill Valley[/b], both probably 25 mins away. There is a 9-hole [b]Northampton CC[/b] but I wouldn't recommend it. [b]Westover GC[/b] is about 25 mins away in Ludlow/ Granby. Long and flat but usually in good shape. Hickory is by far the most convenient, and isn't a bad track to play.Crumpin was great. If you live in New England check out www.freegolf.net. Easthampton has [b]Pine Grove[/b], and [b]Tekoa CC[/b] is probably within range too. If you don't mind the higher rates, [b]Crumpin Fox[/b] is a beautiful course and you definitely can't go wrong there, So basically I agree with the guy above.

Called up Crumkin they have two shotguns for Saturday. Ended up with the Groupon idea for Hickory Ridge. Thanks for your help guys.

Might be too late or not in your wheelhouse, but Westover Air Base is about 20 mins away. They have a major airshow Sat + Sunday. It's worth checking out if you have any extra time. Expect traffic if you venture into Chicopee, and you should be able to see plenty of planes to your south from Hickory.while golfing.

Hickory was a great time. Teed off just before 12 as a twosome with my brother and I. Nice layout a bit shaggy for my liking but probably letting it grow out since the winter we had in the NE.

Cold Spring Country Club in Belchertown, Ma., is a sprawling course with true majesty in spots and holes with great memorability. Panoramic vista from the downhill par 3 tee box overlooks the Western Mass. countryside. It's a full-length course with just 7 par 4s.
