question regarding golfshot

Once I download a course to my golfshot when I use it does it use data. I want to use mine in the US , I'm in Canada

I believe once the images are loaded, you do not require data to access them again.

test it via turning on Airplane mode

If you have an iPhone and not Android go here for a free GPS program that's as good as Golfshot.

i've use this app since 2009, basically the only features i used are all Free. imo it has the best user interface for scorecard keeping and it generates sufficient stats

Here's my suggestion. Before you layout the money, I would try a free program first such as Swing By Swing to see how you like it. IMHO it's better to use a dedicated GPS device rather than the phone.

I have and like Golfshot, I used to have a skycaddie, but I got a laser recently so I use the laser and Golfshot, it gives me most anything the skycaddie did, I use it when I don't have a clear sight line with the laser

Try it before you buy it. The UI is cumbersome and you spend more time dicking with entering your data than you do playing golf. Your playing partners will love you..... NOT.

It is completely free. Also free if you download courses through WiFi. Does not use any data charge.

Good then. Golfshot is probably the best app for the phone. It does give a lot of information.

The only thing I paid for was the statistics package. When I got it the basic app and the view package were free. They do show in-app purchases for one year and lifetime now but I believe that is for added Apple Watch capability only. Their website now shows $19.99 for the original app with no subscription or yearly fees.

Edited to add: I really like the ability to view the holes in 2D or 3D or satellite as well as just get a list of yardages to various targets or features on a hole.

Now I'm trying to figure out to buy the classic or pro version??? Classic is the old version but costs $29. Pro is newer and is free with in app purchases?

Can someone shed some light on which is the better way to go?

Hmm! When I downloaded any course, I was never charged anything extra. I did it over WiFi. Could they have changed?

Ya that's what I was thinking. After reading some user feedback it seems a lot of people are/were upset that golfshot was only going to be focusing on the new version when the old classic one was just fine and really popular.

i just use the Classic mode. On mine it displays 'Lifetime Membership' but I think it's because I have paid for it previously, before they did all these membership stuff.

I can't see myself changing to another app unless i get something like Game Golf (which apparently has a pretty good free app too)
