Fake JL on eBay

Since there is a growing number of fans on here

Ok, so here is the deal. I know there are tons of JL topics around but most are often just repeating the same thing (How are the pants and what belt size should I get). I thought we could start a discussion about Lindeberg fakes on eBay, as I have seen them before and they will probably pop up again. And since I know from other threads a lot of us here are buying stuff on eBay, I thought we could exchange in this topic about auctions that we think are fakes, in order to protect ourselves.

So let me start it:

There are a lot of these Lachlans from time to time on eBay and from some reason, they just look weird to me. Combined to the fact that the seller lists a lot of the same model in huge quantitties and they are colorways that is not being made anymore. He advertises them as fall/winter 2006. For sure they are not from that collection. But a lot of sellers get the collections wrong. And they are insanely cheap. So is this just someone who bought a bunch of factory extras somehow and they are real or are they just fakes.

This is a noble undertaking you have done.There are some pretty obvious fakes of JL's on Ebay but for those who are untrained to see the finer details of JL authenticity, I think we need someone from JL or who sells JLs as dealers to verify authenticity.

Take the link you showed for example, so is that a fake or not?

The JL website doesn't show all the colors that they are currently selling (or do they?).

There are several JL golf shirts on Ebay and I was gonna scoop up some of 'em including the one you posted! Whew! If that turns out to be a fake, boy am I glad I logged on to wrx.

So is this one authentic?:

I don't know about the link I posted so I'm asking the board too. Like if anyone bought one and can confirm the authenticity or lack of. They are crazy cheap. It's weird, considering cost on a JL shirt is much higher than this.

There are a few things to look for when trying to spot fakes...

1) look at the item name (that says a lot, if it doesn't have a detailed description, that would raise a flag)

2) look at the picture (fake shirts are easy to spot

3) look where it comes from (country, beware of Asia and sometimes Canada, depending on the seller, there is a great JL seller on ebay from Canada)

4) look at price (if it looks too good to be true, then it probably is)

I would say the item Fore posted is legit, name seems right, picture from the website (seller will email pics of item), it comes from WI and price is reasonable for that shirt now..

Not so much about Blue's posted item... I've seen those shirts on ebay for a LONG time now and crazy amounts of the same model... Never seen the white/pink, black/pink color combination in any JL store, website or tour pic... I'm not saying that it is a fake, but it is pretty shady... I've bought some fake JL, mostly from Asia and a belt from Canada, but I had a pretty good idea of what I was buying, the price says most of it... the belt was a pretty good copy, the only difference was the leather quality and the tag was obviously a color copy of an original one... To me, the tag on these shirts looks a lot like a color copy I got on my belt, because it has too much shine on it, the real tags are somewhat "mate tour finish"... hehehe :russian_roulette:

Usually fakes are easy to spot, but this shirt I've been tempted to buy and find out the hard way, but I just couldnt get my self to pull the trigger, as it will probably be a good copy... but on the other hand, if its cheap enough and looks like the real deal, I don't care!

Just my 2 cents..

Yeah, that's what I thought about the hsirts I posted. Plus notice how the JL tag is present but there is not Technofine tag which should be present on a brand new shirt with tags.

Fore, as for your item, I agree there is no reason for it not to be legit. The seller has for different models on right now, all models from last summer I believe. The pictures on there are from the JL website I believe. If you want tom make sure, just ask the seller for real pictures. He shouldn't object if the shirt is legit. And then again, faking a dunley is less likely than faking a lachlan or a belt.

Juan, is this the seller of the belt you are talking about cause I wondered about this too. Also seems too good to be true.

What is weird i the insane inventory he seems to have. I bid on one of his belts once and lost it and received a second chance offer in the seconds after the listing ended. And then bid again and lost. And received another second chance offer. Because from the pictures, if this stuff is fake, it is really really good fake. And who would bother to fake cufflinks really ?

Well, this is the same dilema I'm having with the belts I posted above your post. It looks legit to me from the picture. I just think it's weird that the only things this seller has been selling on eBay are JL belts. Plus, they are crazy inexpensive. So at that price anyway, it's not a big loss and it's not as if that thing looks like a blatant fake, if it even is one. I suspect some sellers on eBay migh just have bought a HUGE amount of belts and got a good wholesale price, so this is the reason they are selling them cheap.

If you like it, I would say go for it maybe, because nothing looks fake from the pictures. It even has the J.Lindeberg inscription on the loop.

I'm not sure if this is of any relevance, but here in the UK the J Lindeberg Company have a sample sale twice a year, you get belts at £20/$40, shirts £30/$60 and trousers usually £40/$80. These sales were originally open to account holders only but they are now open to the public.

So the prices you see on ebay now are about what you would pick them up for at sample sales, but as with everything if the demand is there, fakes will soon enough pop up on ebay!!

That belt looks legit to me... actually, i'm almost sure that it is original... Good catch on the logo on the loop, that is usually where they get them wrong with the fakes...

Blue, I couldnt open your link, so not sure, but I doubt there are fake JL cufflinks, probably someone wanted to get ride of them and sold them as a bunch and got on Ebay... try posting the link again and I will look at them... Never seen cufflinks in real life, so don't know how much I could help., but i'll try... I know what you mean about those sellers on Ebay, they seem to have unlimited supply of JL, which seems a little strange...

Well, I honestly think that you can't lose with those belts... its a win win situation... Either is a fake, and you got a belt that looks pretty similar to the original, or its an original JL belt... Either way is a nice belt, cheap (by JL standards)... So not bad at all... I'm liking the Topper belt... Might have to buy one!

Hey guys if you are willing to spend $50 on a JLindeberg that is questionable, why not go out a spend an extra $25 to buy from an authorized Lindeberg dealer?

Something to think about, huh?

I purchased 3 belts not caring if they were real or fake. They look identical to the real thing, so they could be real. All of the tags, etc are the same as those online.
