Adding a sight dot - any suggestions?

Blade Putter
I have a chromed blade putter that I want to add a sight dot to.

It's an Arnold Palmer "the original" remake, it's basically the same thing as the "Designed by" blades by Cleveland. I located the sweet spot and marked it with a pencil line.

Any suggestions for methods to add the sight dot?

Do I need to use a drill press? or Can I just secure the putter in my regripping vice and drill a small dot?

Also, do I need to fill it in with enamal paint and clear coat to prevent rusting?

I added one last year to the same style putter. I used a real small drill bit (1/16" or 1/32" bit to start the sight dot right in the center of the marked line.

I then worked up the drill bits until I liked the size of the dot created.

I did fill it with Testor's enamal paint. I didn't fill mine withe a clear coat but I don't see how that would hurt it.

I locked my putter in the vise and used a small drill press. It worked like a champ. You could also use a vise and handheld drill with a bubble level on it to make sure you have everything lined up.

How did you locate the sweetspot? I know on blades, it's typically closer to the heel than center.

Hold the club between your thumb and index finger of one hand, and bounce a ball into the face of the club with the other hand. It will move almost straight back when you hit the sweetspot and twist more and more the farther away you hit from the sweetspot.

You're right, the sweetspot is not centered and instead closer to the heel.

Thanks!!! I have an Odyssey 882 that has no site line. I want to add one to it. It felt best when I lined up slightly closer to the heel. I noticed that my Armour EFT#4 has its site dot (capital A) closer to the heel. My Yes! Sophia has its site line in the middle. I actually line it up with the line towards the outside of the ball. I'd love to "fill" its existing site line and re-draw a new one 3-4 mm closer to the heel. Any suggestions on "filling" an existing site line?

If you have the ability to remove the head, you can check the sweetsport with certainty. For an example of how to do it, check out the Scotty Cameron website in the video section. Scotty will tell you how it's done.

Also, you can visit golfworks.com and buy the Maltby Playability Factor (MPF) for irons book. That will give you all the information you could ever want about finding the horizontal and vertical center of gravity for irons (the principles generally work for putters as well).

Enamel Paint!!!!!! No need to drill a hole, I put a dot on my scotty 6 months ago, no sign of it wearing off at all. Cheap, effective, simple.
