How do you refresh!

Hi all,

Just after some info! Im looking to find a way to rejuvinate my grips i've had my new custom irons for from titleist for 4months I ordered the tour wraps with cord. I practise quite alot and play weekly I also have been in Asia in hot humid whether. They they have taken a bit of a pounding!

What should I use or do I need to get new grips?

First of all, if you've played them alot, change them out with new grips, don't be cheap. Sometimes grips get dirty, dried out and loose that tacky feeling, you can take dish washing soap, a splash of bleach, and a good scub brush with warm water. Scub the heck out of the grips, rinse and towel rub dry, this will bring back their tackiness like new.

Sandpaper will remove a layer and make them like new again. I use sand paper 2-3 times them eventually buy new grips.

Yes! sandpaper works great. Use some corse-grit sandpaper/wet'n'dry and give them a sanding 2 or 3 times, then give them a good wash with soapy water. This is for GP tour velvet, I haven't tried cord grips, winn etc.

If I need to buy new grips, what do you recomend and the best at keeping there tackyness for warm humid weather??

Dan,

I am not sure how you bring worn or hardened grips back to playing condition. However, if you clean the grips frequently, especially in hot weather, they will stay soft until wear makes them unplayable. Simply take a small bucket and mix some dishwashing soap with water. I use one of the nylon mesh covered sponges to scrub the grips. This removes the dirt and oils that we put on the grips during play. By wrapping my thumb and index finger around the grip I squeege the excess soap off the grip. I don't rinse the grip. The soap remaining on the grip helps keep the grip soft and tacky. I live in Texas and thoroughly clean my grips about once a month. Hope this helps. :drinks:
