Acushnet Bullseye Shaft Question

I ran across an interesting couple of thrift store items today. One was an old Acushnet Bullseye putter that I take to be early 60s from what I have read. There is an oddity in the shaft that I have never heard mentioned. It appears to have about a 3" section down the shaft that has about 7 vertical grooves all around the shaft. Any of you familiar with that?

That is a typical fluted shaft for a Bullseye putter.

[attachment=3039884:20151120_201203.jpg]I think I will mess with it. It needs a little cleaning; I think it has an original shaft and grip (if I can successfully post a photo of that). The offset and the "Flat" mounting seem to feel a little odd to me, though. I may have to stand further away from this one...LOL.

Yep that is a 60s maybe early 70s Reuters. It is just like the one I found in the pile at work that I gave to my friend in Winnsboro. I responded to your PM. What thrift were you raiding today?
